Story
Meet Slinky! Slinky is a 2 year old chihuahua mix with the cutest little face and mismatched ears. He loves to play - any toy will do! The very first thing he does when he comes in the door is grab one of his toys and begin to play. He is fully house trained and up to date on his shots. He does alright in a crate when needed but prefers to be with his people. He is a definite Velcro dog - you will never use the bathroom solo again. His favorite place to be is curled up on your lap on the couch (when he isn’t entertaining himself with a toy).
Slinky requires a very special home with a patient and experienced adopter. Slinky is happy to meet new people but takes time before he is comfortable with handling. He warms up to women much faster than men and would do best in an all-female home with people who will be patient in building their relationship and trust. Even with time, he still will have his moments where he only desires affection on his terms. Slinky has a bite history but his triggers are predictable and he is clear in his communication. He will do best in a low-traffic household with adopters who have experience with dog behavior and body language.
In return for the patience and understanding, Slinky will provide an endless flow of love and companionship, entertainment via his silly antics, and hours of playtime.
While Slinky gets along with other dogs, and even plays when he is comfortable, he will do best as an only dog in his forever home. He can get overstimulated if other dogs are excited or moving quickly and prefers to have his humans to himself.
As an adolescent, Slinky is working on learning new things including that human arms are not additional chew toys for him. He is making huge progress with his manners and picks up routines very quickly. He has learned “sit,” “place,” “crate,” and “wait” in his foster home and these skills will need continued rehearsal and reinforcement. He needs a patient home that will continue to help him learn boundarie, impulse control, and how to appropriately communicate his feelings.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
