Story
"Little" Ricky as he is so fondly known as is a 3 year old chihuahua mix. He's a little portly at 20 lbs but we're working on that. You have to admit, his coloring is striking! Ricky came to us from an overcrowded home and exhibited the typical behaviors that these dogs do when they dont get enough human interaction. Ricky was fine with other dogs but terrified of people. It took him a while to push through, but he did and to the point he could go into our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program. Ricky needed basic work on leash, crate and house training also. We are happy to announce we are on the brink of bringing someone a fantastic family companion! Ricky has become everyone's favorite lap dog! He's to the point, he cant get enough attention from humans. He has gracefully accepted a leash and collar and doing very well with his house training. (its hard to move them off pee pads!) Ricky is ready to start looking for his forever home. His perfect fit will be with one person, perhaps two that he can bond to. He will undoubtably be the most loyal companion you could ever have. FRED is a 5 year old male chihuahua that weighs 15 lbs. He is a shy, gentle little dog that is working hard to enjoy a better life. He came to us from a hoarding situation. A senior became ill and left 8 little dogs behind in her home. They were well fed but poorly socialized. FRED started with us in foster care. Earlier this year, he graduated to our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program. For most dogs, this program is designed to address obedience issues, for others, the socialization aspects of the environment are perfect. And we love it when "a plan comes together!" FRED can walk on a leash, sit on command and sit up for a treat! His greatest accomplishment? He loves his inmate and will readily jump into his lap. Many of us take this show of affection for granted. For Fred, he's finally realizing his human buddy is a what a little chihuahua is meant to do. Next steps? FRED is ready to graduate from Paws Behind Bars. He's ready for his own home. The "right" fit for him will be in a quiet, adult home. He will do best with a gentleman owner. He is very easy to care for, and once he bonds with you, there will be nothing but unconditional love. If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application.
