Story
Hello everyone, my official name is Toby-Wan Kenobi, but everyone calls me Toby dog. I’m not exactly sure what breeds I am or how old I am (best guess is terrier mix, 6-8 years old) because nobody really cared about me or took care of me when I was younger. You see, I lived in what my foster mom calls a “horrible hoarding situation” where I was forced to live in a crate 24/7! That all changed on August 1, 2020 (a day I will cherish forever) because that was the day that I (and over 20 other dogs) got our freedom ride. When I got to my foster home my mom took me to a wonderful lady who shaved off all my filthy, nasty, disgusting fur which was matted and covered in stuff you don’t even want to think about! I felt (and smelled) so much better once I was groomed. Now I visit the nice groomer lady for a haircut and bath regularly, so I’m always clean and dapper. Well, that was the easy stuff to fix about me. You see, because I was so isolated when young, I never developed appropriate behaviors towards dogs or humans. So, I guess you could say I have some mental health issues (don’t we all). My foster mom works with a special vet who has prescribed 3 different medications to help me cope with the world. Unfortunately, we now think that I am also diabetic, so I take a daily medication for that too, but I do well with taking all my meds (as long as they are hidden in cut-up hotdogs). My biggest hang-up is that I don’t feel comfortable letting anyone touch me. Whenever someone tries to pet me, I always move away (I never bite). I don’t really know why, but I just can’t let myself be touched by anyone unless I take some special medications that really chill me out (for trips to the vet or groomers). Sometimes I can touch you if I want to, but you reaching out to me is a no-no. If you do accidentally touch me, I just sort of jump back and then move away (again, I never bite). Since living with my foster family (2 adults, 2 cats, and lots of dogs) I have learned to tolerate other dogs and will lay near them, but I really don’t interact much with them. I enjoy roaming around the yard and I LOVE to chew on bones, antlers, and other appropriate dog stuff, but I don’t really do toys. I guess you would say I’m a pretty quiet, laid-back dude, but I always perk up for treats or food of any kind! If you are serious about getting to know me better to possibly adopt me, please know it will be a step-by-step process to allow me time to get to know and trust you. My foster parents love me, and they promised me that I would NEVER AGAIN be failed so badly by humans. Due to Toby's behaviors, he will not attend Petsmart adoption events. The Foster Mom is willing to meet outside of the Saturday adoption events at a time and place convenient to both parties once an application has been processed. This dog is house broken, crate trained, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, heart worm negative, on flea and heart worm preventative, and micro-chipped. This dog will REQUIRE A PHYSICALLY FENCED YARD. No apartments or condos for this dog please. Our adoption fee is $250.00 (cash or credit card) HOW TO APPLY: If you would like to apply for this dog or any of our other dogs, please request an application by clicking the “START YOUR INQUIRY” button. You can also go directly to our website at www.waganimalrescue.com to fill out an application. You must be at least 25 years old to apply. IMPORTANT: An application must be filled out and approved before we will make special arrangements to meet a dog. A volunteer will review your application and contact you if your application is approved or if further clarification is required. We will make every attempt to contact APPROVED applicants within 5 business days of application submission (M-F), but this will depend on the number of applications received. If you do not answer all questions then your application may not be processed. WAG Animal Rescue adopts to homes that are best fits for our animals' needs, and not on a first-come, first-served basis. We are an all-volunteer organization, and regret that we do not have the resources to contact applicants that are not approved. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
