RCHS does not conduct DNA tests on dogs who enter our facility therefore we are unable to guarantee breed or breed mix. Information provided by shelter staff, volunteers, and veterinarians is used to give a best estimate as to a dog’s breed make up. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each dog.We are a dog only facility so we do not know how most of our dogs will be with cats. Even if a dog is surrendered to us and said to be good with cats there is no way to be sure the dog will be good with your cats. We do have a 7 day foster-to-adopt program so that you can see how the dog interacts with your cats before adoption.

Story
🐾 Meet Maria Liccardi! 🐾Maria Liccardi is one of the brave 13 dogs rescued from a hoarding situation in a neighboring county. These tough little survivors spent their days outside, waiting for food and water to arrive, sharing a small pen with 11 other dogs. 🌧️ For that reason, we named them after famous tough guys and gals!Despite her past, Maria Liccardi is a sweet girl with a shy demeanor around new people. She’s eager to connect and needs a patient home that will give her the space and time to understand she’s safe and loved. 💖Maria Liccardi will need help with leash training, housebreaking, and socializing with new people. Thankfully we have found out that the dogs from this group who were able to be fostered have adapted to inside living quickly and did well with housetraining. 🦴 After living with so many dogs, she’s likely to get along well with most pups, but she might be a little fearful of larger dogs at first. Cats and kids? We recommend a week-long foster-to-adopt trial to ensure it’s a good fit. Since Hedy hasn’t lived with children before, we suggest homes with kids aged 5 and up, and it’s important for any kids in the home to meet her before adoption.Give Maria Liccardi the loving home she deserves, and watch her blossom! 🏡✨Maria Liccardi is estimated to be around 6 years old, West Highland Terrier & Jack Russell mix with maybe some poodle in there too. Maria Liccardi weighs 14 lbs full grown. Maria Liccardi's adoption fee is $250. She is vaccinated, flea & tick treated, negative for Heartworm and Lyme, microchipped and will be scheduled for her spay. You can apply online for her at https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=sr2794&method=online_form_html&formid=21Please put in an application for her on our website at www.highlandhumanesociety.org.
