Story
We think that Scoutt is a Westie mix based on his look. Here is a little information about the breed. Smart, confident, and always entertaining at play, the adorable West Highland White Terrier (Westie, for short) has charmed owners for over 300 years. This diminutive but sturdy earthdog is among the most popular of the small terriers. Standing 10 to 11 inches at the shoulder, with dark piercing eyes, compact body, and a carrot-shaped tail wagging with delight, the Westie's looks are irresistible. Beneath the plush-toy exterior, though, is a true working terrier of gameness and courage. Bred to hunt rats and other underground rodents, Westies are surprisingly strong and tough. The all-white double coat is hard to the touch, not soft and fluffy. Alert and active, Westies exhibit traits of a plucky and self-reliant ratting terrier: They require no pampering, they will chase after anything that moves, and their independence can make training a challenge. But, thanks to their faithfulness and keen intelligence, Westies will train nicely with time and patience. Be ready to adopt. Story
Maggie is a very special little girl. She is extremely loyal and affectionate when comfortable. Unfortunately, Maggie has been dealt a difficult hand in life. Born as the runt of her litter, Maggie developed slower and has several contributing factors to her well being. She is a very anxious dog. She needs someone who understands that she is uncomfortable and needs love and attention. Her anxiousness does not allow for her to be around other animals, nor is she comfortable around small children. Her cherry eye does not seem to bother her, but her teeth did so she needed to have most removed. Now with only three teeth and a goofy smile, she can eat comfortably. Maggie would be best placed in a home with someone who can understand that she is not a social pet. She is sweet when she feels safe, but has been known to be defensive when feeling threatened, and because of her anxiety, most things make her feel that way. She may do best in a quiet 1-2 person home, possibly someone older.

Story
Hi, my name is Roxy! I don’t know how, but somehow I went from living with my human companion to being in a really scary place called the pound. Lucky for me; I was rescued by a wonderful rescue organization, and now I am being taken care of by a super foster family. They can tell you that I love to cuddle and chill, I’m very good with kids, I’m house-trained, and I love my walks and behave perfectly. I’m okay with being around other dogs, but I’m happy to just be around my human friends. I would be so happy to find my forever home, so I could give you all the love I have in me! If you are interested in meeting Roxy, please download the Adoption Questionnaire, fill it out and fax it back to us at (310) 362-0321. You can also meet this and/or other available dogs at our weekend adoptions. [Roxy is 11 years old and weighs 8 lbs.] (2003/2406)

Story
Elvis is a 2-year old West Highland Terrier Mix that weighs about 14 lbs. He was found as a stray wandering the streets of Long Beach. It appears he was born with a cleft palate and the previous owner probably dumped him after using him for breeding purposes. Because of this defect, the shelter only gave him a short time to be adopted. Several amazing people came together to save Elvis before his time was up. We are so happy to welcome him into our rescue. He is a little shy at first meeting but warms up quickly and is so sweet and silly. He can eat and drink with no problem. He is great with other dogs and is getting along OK with his Foster Mom's cats. He is very active, loves his toys, loves to go on walks and run around his Foster Mom's house, he would be best suited in an active home with a back yard. Elvis is up-to-date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. If you are interested in this VERY special boy, please complete the application on our website: www.adoptmerescue.org. LOCAL AREA ADOPTION ONLY!
