Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Captain — the adorable little chaos biscuit himself. Captain is a happy guy who definitely believes his voice is his superpower. If a leaf moves outside? He’ll let you know. A shadow walks by? He’ll let you know. Your own reflection in the window? Yep… he’ll let you know that too. He’s currently learning the house rules and, so far, the cats might as well be decorative pillows—he completely ignores them. This skinny little dude came in severely matted but was a total champ during his makeover. Now he’s rocking his “freshly baked” look. Captain is still a nervous nugget, especially around men, but he’s trying his best. Kids? He hasn’t met any yet, but with a gentle, respectful child, he’ll probably warm up. As for cuddling… he’s far too busy being excited, confused, and dramatic to sit still for snuggles. One day. Not today. He LOVES squeaky toys and will proudly squeak one for an unreasonable amount of time. Here is a great video of his classic “pick me up” dance—back legs up, front paws flailing on the fence like a tiny circus performer demanding attention. Captain is a small guy with a big personality who just needs time to settle in and realize the world isn’t out to get him. With patience and love, he’ll go from nervous baguette to confident loaf in no time. Captain is from a local impound. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Snickers is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart before you even realize it’s happened. He’s a sweet, gentle little guy who may be a bit unsure at first, but he warms up within a few minutes and then happily settles in with his people. Snickers is so quiet and well-mannered that you may forget he’s even there — until he curls up next to you, preferably under a cozy blanket, ready for cuddles. He truly loves being close and enjoys lap time, affection, and calm companionship. Snickers does well with adult men and women, children over 10, and small dogs. He has a moderate energy level and a lovely balance of playfulness and relaxation. He enjoys toys, rides well in the car, and is both leash trained and crate trained. He’s eager to please, intelligent, gentle, and affectionate, with a shy, tender side that makes him especially endearing. When he’s happy to see you, Snickers doesn’t just wag his tail — he wags his whole body. It’s impossible not to smile when he does. He likes being outside, but he much prefers being indoors with his people where he feels safest and most content. Snickers came from a shelter in rough condition, with matted fur and skin issues that required grooming and care. Despite that difficult start, he has shown nothing but sweetness and resilience. There are no major challenges noted — he simply thrives with attention, toys, and a soft blanket to snuggle into. He may bark briefly in his kennel if other dogs around him are barking, but he settles when redirected. Snickers would do best in a home where he can spend plenty of time indoors with his people, soaking up love and affection. If you’re looking for a quiet, cuddly companion with a gentle soul and a heart full of love, Snickers may be the perfect match for you! Snickers is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program.   Click here   to learn more about this program.   This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease and is available through our Foster-to-Adopt (FTA) program. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Puma is an absolute sweetheart of a guy! He can be perfectly happy as the only pup soaking up all the attention, but because he’s still young, he truly enjoys having someone—human or canine—to play with. Puma has been incredibly sweet and gentle with people of all ages, small dogs, and even large dogs. As long as other dogs are friendly, Puma remains relaxed and non-defensive. He has met cats and tends to chase them—not to hurt them, but out of curiosity—so a cat-free home would be the best fit for him. He’s affectionate and people-focused, yearning for love and attention and more than happy to give it right back. Puma has a goofy side too—he’ll tease you by pretending to come over for pets and then suddenly dart off in the opposite direction, inviting you to join the fun. Puma loves going for walks and gets visibly excited when he sees the leash come out. He was dumped on a Texas highway, but despite that rough start, he showed immediate trust—allowing his finder to call him over, pet him, and safely pick him up. That trust and resilience speak volumes about his loving nature. Puma deserves a second chance in a home where he’ll be cherished. He has all the makings of a loyal, joyful companion and will bring laughter, affection, and devotion to the lucky family who adopts him. Puma is from Texas.    This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment.
