You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi I’m Mateo!  I’m a handsome scruffy little lady who is looking for a family of my very own.  I came here from a shelter in Arkansas where I found myself when my owner passed away.  I wasn’t there too long before I came to MN where I found myself in a foster home.  It took me a bit to open up to my new foster.  I was sad and confused since I had lost my home and owner.  I was lucky though that I got to come here with my brother, Dirk.  I don’t need to be adopted with him, but if you have room in your heart I’d certainly love to be adopted with him.  Bonus: I am crate, leash, AND potty trained! I don't need a fenced in yard, but sure would love it if you had it! When we meet I’m shy with new people and need a bit to warm up.  Once I trust you though then I’m a happy lady who likes to dance and give you my bestest smile!  My former owner taught me that when it’s time to be picked up you turn around and look over your shoulder so you can easily be picked up.  I can be playful with my brother, but I tend not to play with the other fosters here.  It’s not that I don’t like them, I just kinda do my own thing.  I don’t really care about toys, but I do enjoy food and treats.  I’d love a calm home with no kids where I can lounge around in peace and watch the world out the window and just lay by your feet.  I’m small and don’t take up much room other than a big space in your heart. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs. Story
Hi there, I’m Anny. I’m an adorable, purebred Schnauzer girl who was rescued from the icky commercial breeding life in September 2024. Oof, things started out pretty rough for me. Humans were scary, life was scary, kennels were scary, everything was scary. I have been through a ton of things in my first 2 years of life and let’s just say most aren’t pleasant at all. Thank heavens for rescue and my patient foster parents and my foster siblings - because I have begun to really enjoy being a loved family member and this dog thing is pretty awesome. I am not going to be for every family, because I’m still learning to be brave and happy every day. Loud noises frighten me. Like the garage door or the doorbell, or anytime my foster mommy drops something - I run for the hills. Also, kissing my face - please don’t do it. I’m not saying I won’t ever hate it, but right now the sound and the human face in mine just deeply scares me. Picking me up - please don’t do it. I was lifted against my will for 2 years and I really, really don’t like it at all. I will run away from you if you try to do it. I know I sound difficult, but I’m just still learning that humans and being a loved part of a family is a good thing. Here is where I have made enormous strides - eating - it’s my favorite time of the day. Having a meal every day is just heaven. I desperately need another doggie companion. I will follow my sibling and take all of their cues. Confidence is key, and I really need to have another fur buddy with me at all times because I do get anxious if/when I’m left alone. Walks - at first I was terrified of the leash, like terrified and I still don’t love it, because having something put on my neck scares me, as do the noises from cars, but I will walk with my fur sibling, and I actually quite like doing it. I will absolutely need a fenced secure yard at first because walking with my new family will take a lot of time, trust, and training. Now my good points - because I have many!  I’m all Schnauzer - Silly, Sassy, and full of personality! When I get comfortable, I am a very happy and chill girl! Laying by the fireplace in a cozy bed is my true happy place! I am pretty good about my kennel.  Never had a single mess in it, but I need to be coaxed patiently to go into it. Once I’m there I’m a super good girl and I don’t make a peep. I love chewing! Bones, bully sticks, greenies, anything. I love to chew! I also love laundry and enjoy stealing it and scattering it all over my foster mom and dad’s house. They laugh, because catching me with tshirt in my mouth is super funny! I am very sweet and there isn’t a doggie friend I have disliked and my foster family has pups come for visits a lot. I have gotten along with all of them - young, old, and small. I sleep in bed with my foster family. I really like it. I turn into a little goofball. It’s one of the few places I will let my foster mom and dad pet me, and rub my belly, and I even give them hand kisses. Since loud noises really frighten me, young children are not recommended. I also have to live in a house with a fenced yard that is connected to the home, because I will take off quickly if given the chance and I will run away and I will not come back, or let you touch me or pick me up. For a family with older, kind, and respectful children, a mom or dad who works from home, or a recently retired mom or dad, I would be a great addition to the family, as long as I have a fur sibling to hang out with. I know that’s a lot of info, but I have overcome so much and with every new day I continue to make huge strides in showing what a great and brave girl I am.    Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Meet Bellamy, a Schnauzer born roughly 11/2/17. While her name is Bellamy, her foster family calls her Lady.  Due to her background as a breeder release, Lady had limited exposure to home life. Nevertheless, her gentle and affectionate nature has enabled her to form strong bonds with her foster family. Lady cherishes interaction with her foster family and delights in relaxing on the couch beside them.    She is steadily progressing in acquiring household skills, including stair climbing, crate training, and eating from a dog dish. The resident dogs in her foster home have played a pivotal role in teaching Lady the ropes, and a future home with another dog would be beneficial.    Lady is remarkably friendly and affectionate towards individuals of all ages. Her inquisitive disposition prompts her to observe her surroundings attentively. Although Lady remains calm and quiet, she can be easily startled by sudden noises.    Her house training is progressing daily, thanks to the guidance of the resident dogs. Her foster family has implemented a structured feeding and potty schedule, and Lady has adjusted well to short periods of crating. However, leash training requires further attention. Lady prefers sleeping near her foster family and exhibits a preference for soft food over kibble. She has also adapted well to car travel. She can't wait to meet her forever family!    Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
