Story
Meet Dakota! The sweetest 8-year-old Vizsla/Pitbull Mix, weighing in at 60 pounds in San Diego, CA she's willing to travel to find her forever family! With a heart full of love and a zest for life, Dakota is a remarkable companion with a wide array of interests and endearing qualities! Dakota's playful spirit shines through as she enjoys the simple pleasures of life. She has a deep affection for balls, chew toys, and leisurely walks. Her obedience is impressive, knowing basic commands, and her well-behaved demeanor is a testament to her gentle nature. Dakota's favorite pastime is snuggling up next to her beloved humans, offering warmth and companionship! When it comes to the company of other dogs, Dakota thrives, making her an ideal addition to a multi-dog household. She's amiable and sociable, embracing the camaraderie of her furry companions. However, her high prey drive rules out living with cats, as her instincts may lead to discomfort for all parties involved. Dakota's independence allows her to be content when left alone, but she may become anxious during bad weather or fireworks. Her resilience is remarkable, as she doesn't let a bit of arthritis hold her back, maintaining a youthful spirit and zest for life, even if she occasionally requires a bit of rest. Visitors and children are greeted with a warm and friendly disposition, demonstrating Dakota's welcoming nature! She walks exceptionally well on a leash, staying close to your side until a tempting scent catches her attention, adding a sense of adventure to your daily outings. Whether you're embarking on a camping adventure, taking in the beach's beauty, or enjoying a quiet evening at home, Dakota is ready to add joy and companionship to your life. With her captivating personality and a heart full of love, she's the ideal furry friend to create unforgettable memories and cherished moments! Also, Dakota is open to a long-distance adoption—love knows no distance when finding your perfect companion! If you have any questions about Dakota, please email adopt@joyfulpets.com!

Story
Meet Harrison! A dignified seven-year-old Vizsla from Corte Madera, CA, whose golden rust coat radiates warmth and beauty, just like his heart. Harrison is a loving, playful companion who thrives on human connection and adores chasing balls, exploring the outdoors, and enjoying the thrill of a good run. At 62 pounds, he’s a large yet gentle soul who’s happiest when he’s part of a family’s daily life. Harrison has mastered commands like sit, paw, come, and no, thanks to his formal obedience training. His favorite activities include backyard games of fetch and chewing on durable rubber toys, and he’s a fan of daily walks and a cozy bed for his naps. Despite being a medium-energy dog, Harrison loves a steady routine of exercise and mental engagement, including his cherished two-mile walks several times a week. Harrison’s personality is a mix of affectionate loyalty and playful curiosity. He’s a constant companion who finds joy in being by your side and is friendly when meeting new people. However, Harrison is a dog who needs a little extra understanding. He feels uneasy in tight spaces or around large objects like boxes, and in moments of high stress, he has bitten when he felt cornered or overwhelmed. While Harrison is not mean or aggressive, these reactions stem from fear and discomfort rather than malice. He simply needs a caregiver who recognizes his triggers, provides him with space, and reassures him so he can feel safe and secure. Harrison would do best in a home with no small children, as their unpredictable movements and energy can overwhelm him. While Harrison enjoys select canine friendships, he’s not compatible with cats. His perfect home will be one where he’s the center of attention. A loving, patient family who understands his quirks and is eager to celebrate his many wonderful qualities is exactly what Harrison needs. Vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, house-trained, and crate-trained, Harrison is ready for a fresh start with a family who will cherish his unconditional love and playful spirit. To make sure that Harrison has a great start with his new family, we have a canine behaviorist available for a free consultation. If you’re ready to welcome Harrison into your life, please reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com today! Are you the caring family Harrison is waiting for to share his loyalty, love, and zest for life?

Story
This compact and condensed bundle of fun is named Tux. Short for Tuxedo? Or a cross between Tenacious and Deluxe? They both fit because he is a handsome and amazing package no matter what you want to call him! Tux looks big in his photos and that might be due to his exuberant personality. He is a swell fellow and is not afraid to use his good looks and high charm to wriggle into your heart and perhaps coax you into throwing that ball! He loves toys, loves to play, loves to engage and loves to learn. He's good with people and with other dogs. He is one fine pup. He came to us from North Dakota where he was found abandoned in a landfill field. Between a rescue group (who regularly rescues abandoned dogs from this field!), the local Humane Society, and our recruiter, he finally came to us! Quickly becoming a staff favorite with his willingness to learn and his happy-go-lucky personality, we were disappointed that we had to release him from our high impact training to have a milder and less physically challenging working (or playing) life. He has a narrow disc space which showed up in his x-rays so, although, he shows no signs of discomfort, and maybe never will, we could not continue to have him jumping up and down on rubble piles training for search and rescue work... However, this boy has everything we like! He is confident, communicative, socially stable, curious, willing and fun-loving. If any of those traits seem attractive...well...Tux is waiting for you! It's always amazing when a dog comes from rough or suspect circumstances and yet continues to blossom and grow into a happy, well-adjusted, trusting creature. Tux is no exception here. He is an amazingly resilient boy who deserve his chance to shine!
