Story
Meet Milo. The man that knows exactly what he wants. And what does he want you might ask? He wants nothing but the longest game of fetch! Milo has a slight obsession with the game fetch and he takes his love for the game very seriously. After every session, he takes the game ball back to his room to reminisce on what a wonderful time he had. Once he has cleared the play yard of tennis balls, Milo will find the next best thing to fetch and he does a great job bringing it and setting it into your hands. He loves to run and fling himself through the air. He can twist and jump like no one's business! But fetch is not his only skill. Milo is also comedian in his spare time. He loves to make everyone laugh with his silly, goofy faces. He loves to leave nose prints by pressing his face up against any glass surface. Milo makes the staff here at PAWS GH laugh at least five times a day. If you need some laughter in your life, Milo is the man for you! He's a little hesitant with new people but one toss of a tennis ball and you're in! He will make friends with anyone willing to support his obsession.Milo will be entering the Freedom Tails training program! He will be learning new skills and some basic manners starting December 5th and graduating at the end of February. A completed and approved application is needed to schedule a meet and greet. Stay tuned, more info coming soon!!_________________________________________________________________________12/12/24 Milo is the new dog I have the pleasure of training. He’s 3-4 yrs although he still acts like a puppy, full of energy and always wanting to play! He’s a medium sized dog with long legs and a skinny build weighing in at 55lbs. Milo is a hound, I think. People say they see Dalmatian, Greyhound, Springer Spaniel, Tree Walker… the list goes on. At the end of the day, he is beautiful and looks like a cross between them all. Milo is nervous with new people and places. He takes a little while to warm up but once he does warm up, he is the most affectionate! He loves to snuggle and receive belly rubs. He’s also a glutton for treats. Milo loves to play fetch, endlessly! He loves tug and his favorite ball as of late is a simple tennis ball. Milo is a wonderful friend and is a pleasure to train. He is smart and loves to work! __________________________________________________________________________12/19/24Milo has learned all of his cues already! He is so smart! He knows - SitDown Up Off Back By me With me Kennel Crate Wait Stay Down, wait Down, stay Find it Leave it Take it Place Look/ focus Go see Touch He understands both visual and vocal cues. We’re working on strengthening these cues and have fun with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Milo is working on loose leash walking by my side. He is doing very well and is a true rockstar!Milo is already potty trained and will even go to the door and wait as a signal that he’s got to go. Milo is very calm, cool and collected. He loves attention and treats. He’s such a rewarding friend to have and makes my day, everyday. ___________________________________________________________________________12/26/24Milo here - Man, what a journey this has been! I had a family once. I miss them but they had to move on and gave me to the nice people at PAWS. What a great group of people. They look really great care of me and kept me safe. They really liked playing fetch and especially loved it when I made funny faces so I did my best to keep them entertained. It was a blast! They brought me here to the SCCC Freedom Tails program to help these convicts out. The nig house, well what can I say? Three cats and a hat (prison lingo I’ve picked up while being here!) These guys think they’re the ones training me but they give me pets and belly rubs just for being myself, doing cues and being a good boy. So really, who is training who? My trainer is pretty cool, he takes really good care of me. I had some impulse control issues when I first got here. I was a little anxious but he’s really helped me with that! He’s so patient and kind. I now walk nicely on a leash and am much calmer when meeting new people. The world is a scary place but he has shown me that most people are kind and gentle. He makes me feel safe. Leaving him will be hard but we are all seeking parole, even him, and I’m looking for something a little more permanent if you know what I mean. What do you say? Want a new loyal, cute and gentle companion? If so, I’m your man, I mean dog…. MILO OUT! ___________________________________________________________________________1/2/25 Six things about Milo you just HAVE to know~ Milo makes the funniest faces. He tilts his head from side to side and if you're lucky, he'll give you an Elvis lip curl that will slay you! Milo loves to lay his hand on your chest and push his nose into your chin. Too close isn't close enough for him. Milo likes to hold hands. He will come up and put his paw in your hand, sitting there looking into your eyes. Milo knows all of his cues! When he wants a treat or dinner he will start running through all of them in an animated fashion to get what he wants. In the mornings Milo will come out of his crate and climb into my bed. He lays across my chest not wanting to get up thus making the start to my day a little later than normal. MILO LOVES LOVE. Milo likes to go for walks! He knows where to find his other friends here at SCCC and loves going out to look for them. Here are some other things you might like to know - Milo will play fetch or tug of war if you let him. His favorite toy is a tennis ball. Milo Loves to work for his food and jerky is his favorite treat ever. On a scale of 1-10 Milo’s energy in the house is a 2 or below. At the park? Solid 10 most of the time. Milo loves to please, he will do almost anything for a treat or morsel of food. While he doesn’t mind sleeping in his crate at night, a morning snuggle is a must.____________________________________________________________________________1/09/25Milo knows all of his cues and then some. He knows: sit, down, wait, stay, by me, with me, come, back, crate, kennel up, off, look, leave it, take it, find it, drop it, give it, space, stand and go see. We are also working on sit pretty, hug (Milo will wrap both paws around your arm in a sitting position) and stand up tall. He also knows how to complete a full obstacle course flawlessly. Milo walks nicely on leash, if we stop he will stop, return to his handler quickly and is very focused on the task at hand. Milo is a rockstar and loves to show off his talents. Milo is fully potty trained, he always waits to go outside (even when it’s longer than he likes). He always waits at the door to get leashed up and being told “with me” before moving on. He is a well trained and good natured dog. He works for food and love!_____________________________________________________________________________Milo 1/16/25Milo here. What are my favorite things about my handler? Mmmm…well, he gives me treats all the time: treats for doing my cues, treats for being calm and paying attention, treats for walking nicely on leash, and treats for being cute, which is my best attribute. So…I stay steady getting treats. Does he have me well trained or is it the other way around? My handlers energy level is pretty middle of the road (which I thought was a place to stay away from, middle of the road…jeez!). I will say he helps me to stay calm. My secondary handler is full of fun and games, we play all the time. My handler seems to like playing with balls because he is constantly throwing them, so I go get them for him and this makes him happy (he’s not so good at getting them himself). I’vve taught my handler the difference between a friendly growl and a leave me alone growl; sometimes I growl when I am happy to keep him guessing.Funny or weird habits…he likes to sing songs with my name in them. Everywhere we go this guy is singing songs to me or about me. At first I was kind of embarrassed but truth be told It’s kind of comforting. Well, I hope you come get me soon!! I mean I’ll miss these guys but let’s face it prison is for the birds- jailbirds- not dogs. Milo outMilo 1/23/25Milo is the cutest dog, he is full of expression. He makes the funniest faces and does head tilts with an Elvis Presley lip. It will put you in stitches of laughter and melt your heart. He always knows what to do in order to win you over to get treats and chest rubs. Milo will give a little growl when you do something he isn’t fond of, like leaning over his head or hugging his body. One day I discovered a very peculiar thing, while laying on my bed I patted my chest and called Milo to come here. As he was inching his way over my chest I kept patting and my chest and as he was getting closer and closer to my face he was growling, all the way up til we were chin to chin. As I kept talking to him he continued to growl. That is when I discovered Milo growls sometimes when he’s happy. Game changer! Also, it keeps you guessing! Milo is the best dog ever. Please apply to adopt at: http://www.pawsgh.org
