Story
As a first time dog owner, I got Obi September 2023 - not knowing that his breed is a large breed. My condo only allows small to medium sized breeds. Over the years Obi has proven to be sweet, gentle to the hand, and fun-loving. He's a hound, so sniffing around and curiosity are in his nature. While Obi isn't the most cuddly, he still enjoys getting hugged, pet, and rubbed. He will also rest his head in your lap. My desire is that Obi adopter will be a much better fit. Anyone who has an active outdoor lifestyle, an already experienced dog owner who may have another dog(s), and anyone who has property with a back yard should be a good fit - providing something more for this great dog.

Story
Cooper is a big lovebug with lots of energy and agility. He definitely needs lots of exercise and playtime to meet his needs! He plays well with other dogs: hard, but not too hard. He's playful with cats as well. If you're an active person, Cooper is your perfect companion! He loves going to the dog park, and needs the space to run around lots. He struggles with bathtime and becomes aggressive when being locked in his crate. I am rehoming him because I can't meet his needs like he deserves, and my apartment does not have enough space for him to live comfortably.

Story
Meet Emily! She is a Treeing Walker Coonhound who is 9 years old. She’s a female (spayed) and weighs approx 55 lbs. Owner must rehome due to moving to an apartment in the city! Emily has to be rehomed as a well-loved house dog. She could not handle living in a kennel situation. So, if you’re an indoor, pet-loving home please apply! Pros: Very healthy and loving. All shots and medication up to date. Gets along with other dogs. Cons: Will run away if she gets a chance. Will come back, but she will track whatever, until she can’t go anymore. She has always been successfully contained in a 4 to 5 feet high, welded wire, fenced backyard. So that height or higher, or privacy fence would be best for her in a new home. Please apply online to adopt Emily at newkenthumane.org Or send an email with any questions to thenry@newkenthumane.org

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.UPDATE 11/12/24:Here is what his foster mom has to say:Splash is one amazing boy. He is very playful and loves to run around with his canine foster siblings in the fenced in yard. He is gentle with children of all ages and doesn't seem to mind cats either. Splash is house, crate and potty trained, great in the car, loves couch cuddles or just follow you around in the house. He is overall a well rounded dude and such a joy to have around.Splash is a bit scared of new things and noises so he will need more socialization in public. He walks very well on the leash and loves to go to places otherwise. His dad's DNA of a Treeing Walking Coonhound definitely shines through although his mom was 100% Pit Bull. He has inherited the best of both breeds. Did I say that he has the softest fur ever?Whoever ends up adopting Splash will be one lucky family.UPDATE 9/21/24:Splash was returned to our rescue to no fault of his own. He is house and crate trained, fantastic in the car and gets along well with other dogs.More information will be available as he settles into his foster home.Splash is a puppy with the best “pet me puppy dog eyes”. He will happily play outside or with his canine foster siblings then curl up with his foster mom to nap.  She tells us if you rub behind his ears, you’ll be sure to put Splash to sleep. Splash is highly food motivated and uses his sense of smell to his advantage. He will do anything for peanut butter. Splash knows how to sit and is crate trained. He will fuss at first but quickly calms down.  Splash is good with children. His foster home does have a cat and he sometimes needs reminders to be gentle.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 6, 2025, 5:45 pm

Story
Meet Rudolph, He was days away from being put to sleep at a high kill shelter in North Carolina! This handsome guy was discarded as a hunting dog and left for animal control to pick him up running loose, without a place to call home. When no one came forward Rudolph quickly found himself on the urgent list. To make matters worse, Rudolph was heartworm positive. Thanks to a very dedicated foster family, Rudy's life was spared. They agreed to take him in until he found a good home. His heartworms have been treated and he is well on his way to recovery! While in foster care, the family discovered he is a very sweet boy and enjoys laying around in his dog bed. He also enjoys the great outdoors, so a fenced in backyard would be ideal for him to safely enjoy some fresh air! We recommend Rudolph go to a home without other dogs or dog's that are dominant like him. He is NOT aggressive with other dogs; he just likes to be the boss. He will need an understanding family that can work with him! We don't think this hound dog should go to a home with cats. If you are interested in this beautiful boy, please submit an application to be contacted! His foster home is currently located in North Carolina, but arrangements will be made for an approved adopter. APPLY HERE: https://form.jotform.com/230176841172150
