Story
(Neuter Scheduled June 18th) Meet Jack! Jack is a sweet tree walker coonhound. He was found wandering the streets of West Virginia and landed himself in a kill shelter. The vet there aged him at 6, but his foster mom thinks he may be closer to 3 or 4 years old. Luckily Jack was pulled by a rescue and now has a real chance at living the good life. He is currently learning the ropes of being a house dog. He loves to snuggle with his foster mom and can’t get enough playtime with the resident dogs in the home. Jack loves toys and has only barked at his foster siblings when he occasionally doesn’t feel like sharing. Jack is doing very well at crate training. He sleeps through the night and hasn’t had any accidents in his crate. We are still getting the hang of house training, being an unaltered male the urge to mark is there, but accidents have been minimal. We are hoping with his scheduled neuter appointment in June that potty training will get easier. Jack does have a wonky front leg, believed to be an old break that went untreated and did not heal correctly. He is on joint supplements to help with any arthritis. Jack still gets around well, and when he runs you can’t even tell he has a little disability. Jack is still new to walking on a leash, but seems to enjoy it. He has yet to meet a stranger he doesn’t like! With lots of love, patience, and a little training Jack will surely be the bright spot in someone’s day. A house really isn’t a home without a hound, and Jack would really love a family to call his very own.

**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there! My name is Kona. I'm about 9 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Salineville area and I was picked up by the pound. I am an extremely sweet girl with that typical hound dog happy-go-lucky attitude. I love people and I get along great with other dogs. I love going out in a play group with the other hounds here at the pound so we can romp and play together. When I first came in, my overall condition was poor. I was thin and had a mammary mass and a couple of other small masses. I am in much better health and have since had the masses removed. I will need a patient, hound-loving family familiar with hound antics. I was likely kept exclusively as an outdoor dog in my life before making my way into the pound, so I will need work on training and housebreaking. I do also appear to have been hunted. I enjoy treeing whatever there is to tree. The cats work just fine for me if no coons are to be found. If you're a hound lover looking for a new best friend, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Zigman. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was seized by the pound, along with 2 other hounds. We were living in absolutely deplorable conditions, which our owner saw no problem with. We were surrendered to the pound during court proceedings, so we are now able to find loving new families to join. I am a super sweet and very loving, affectionate boy. I love getting attention and my smiling face tells you just how happy I am to be freed of my previous "home". I get along well with other dogs (I've only been around dogs roughly my own size). I am finally learning how to run and play. I was previously used for hunting purposes and may do best in a home without small pets. Being that I was kept as an outdoor dog for my life prior to my arrival at the pound, I will need a patient family willing to work with me on potty training, basic training and house manners. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. Howdy Friends! My name is Louie! I am a young good - looking Tree Walker Coonhound Mix. I am currently being cared for at The Doggie Inn , a boarding & training facility while waiting for my new home. I play with all the other doggies & show them what a good swimmer I am! They are all envious of my perfect swimming abilities! We hunt frogs together and lounge around in the sun waiting dreaming of my new home. I hope to have an active human to hike and play with! I play in social dog groups and have daily training exercises to keep me happy & fullfilled. I am 1 1/2 yrs old, super sweet & ready to be your hiking or running partner!. They say I am sooo handsome but they call me Louie so I know I'm a good boy! I am too wonderful to be without a permanent place to crash , So Im looking for a forever family to share a couch with. Looking for an active family, I will continue to be a well-rounded forever friend. I prefer adult kids , no small children as I am not a fan. My outgoing nature makes me a good match for an active adult family who can give me plenty of attention. I love to play ball, (who doesnt!) I amSuper friendly & will steal your heart! I am well behaved and will greet all friends with a playful sprit! Professional Chief Treat Negotiator 🦴on duty! Just ask for Louie & lets meet! Can’t wait to meet Y'all! Story
Meet Marshall! He was pulled by a local dog shelter when they became dangerously full. Although Marshall is an older guy he still has A LOT of energy. Marshall is a Treeing Walker Coonhound that is on the large size at 80 pounds. He will require a fenced yard when outdoors as he will follow his nose. Marshall also needs some leash manners training as he is a very strong boy. He loves people and attention and does not mind other dogs. Because of his hound tendencies we do recommend a home without cats. He can have a bit of a loud bark when he is excited but he is not a continual barker here at the shelter. He is such a sweet and handsome hound, stop in and meet him today!Marshall's adoption fee is $35 thanks to the Dobec family. This includes: Bordetella Vaccine, DHPP Vaccine, Microchip, Flea Treatment, Dewormer & Spay/Neuter Surgery. As well as age appropriate Heartworm Testing & Rabies Vaccine. We also just got him a dental done!!
