Story
Sweet Lynda Layne was found in a cornfield eating rotten moldy corn from the ground. She was nothing more than a skeleton with skin. She weighed 31 pounds, now she weighs 50 pounds! We have before pics upon request. She was depressed, starving and defeated, dumped by her owner, as is very common in the south. When a hound dog doesn't hunt the way their owner wants them to, they take them for "the ride". Lynda was one of the lucky ones, she was found by a wonderful lady who took her home and then posted her on Facebook. Of course the owner never came so we took her into the rescue. The first night she was here, she never left my side. She even went potty on the pee pads! She has never had an accident in the house and sleeps by my side every night. You won't find a sweeter more loving dog than Lynda! She is young and healthy. Crate trained, microchipped, fully vaccinated and heart worm negative. She desperately needs a loving home. Could that be you? PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! ADOPTION FEE: $500

Story
Hello everyone! My name is Jakey, aka Jake. I'm almost 9 years old. A tree walking coonhound, great dane, foxhound mix. I'm pretty chill but I get super excited when it's time for a walk. I looove taking walks! I also enjoy car rides and have road tripped from NY to Maine and back. I'm very laid back and chill at home, I'm good around other dogs and children, and I love to be a lapdog. On beautiful sunny days I enjoy laying out and soaking it in. I'm a big fan of the outdoors but also enjoy curling up for a snooze inside. I haven't had the easiest life but I hope you'll find me and give me a wonderful, loving, last part.

Story
Norma was picked up as a stray and no one ever showed up to claim her. We do not know what she thinks of cats. Norma is about 10 years young and 48 pounds. Please help Norma find a loving home for her to live out her golden years. From her foster Mom: Norma has the sweetest personality. She is very calm and laid back. She has perfect house manners, so she does not need to be crated if she is home alone. She is fully housebroken and lets us know when she needs to go outside. She sleeps well through the night and prefers to spend her nights near her humans. Norma might be a senior in age, but she still loves to go on walks and should be exercised daily. She walks very well and easy on the leash. After her walks she is satisfied to doze the day away. During her walks she is always happy to see her doggy friends, but she prefers her home to be a quiet and calm environment. So a home without other dogs or small kids would be preferable. She is not very steady on slippery indoor stairs (wood stair), so a home without might be preferable or plenty of rug runners for better traction. We do NOT ship our animals. All adoptive families must travel to us to meet their adoptive dog/cat. Applicants must live within a 2 hour radius from Sparta/Andover (07871/07821). Please understand that we are an animal shelter and thus unable to say whether the dogs are housebroken as they are not in homes. All adoptions are done on a first come, first adopt basis for pre-approved applicants. The Shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.July 7, 2024, 2:40 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Duke is a 6-year-old treeing walker coonhound who was found as a stray in rural NC. He is a beautiful leash walker and would be a great hiking companion for someone.  Duke is very affectionate and happy. He enjoys his family and although he loves to be outdoors he also enjoys a soft bed! Duke has very manageable resource guarding in a home environment- so will need an experienced adopter and a child-free home. Which is a shame because he loves children and is very gentle with them. He can go anywhere with you as he is very friendly and fun.  Duke would do best with another dog or dogs in a home with a fenced-in yard. See Duke's Photo Album here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.939476138182871&type=3 See Duke run here: https://www.facebook.com/reel/1216581532439104 If you are interested submit an application at njshpetrescue.org.  * You must live within 90 minutes of Chester NJ to be considered as an in-person home visit is required for all adoptionsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 6, 2024, 8:26 pm
