Information: Ruger was brought to the shelter as a stray so little is known about him at this time. He is your typical hound dog and not a fan of being copped up in the shelter. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard and room to be a hound. He probably wouldn't be suitable for apartment or condo living where there is a shared roof as he does seem to be a barker, which is also a hound thing. The Treeing Walker Coonhound is an energetic, intelligent, and friendly American scent hound known for its exceptional hunting skills, particularly for treed raccoons, boasting a distinctive baying voice and a tri-color coat. They are affectionate and calm at home but require significant daily exercise and consistent, positive training, thriving in active families who can meet their high energy and mental stimulation needs, with a lifespan of about 12-13 years. The shelter provides a 5-day health guarantee for adopted animals. This includes health conditions not present or known about by the shelter at the of adoption, which adopter becomes aware of within 5 days. Injuries or accidents that occur at the adopter's home are not covered. The shelter is not responsible for incurred costs from local veterinarians due to non-compliance. ALL adoptions are final! Animals can be returned to the shelter for any reason, however, there are NO refunds or exchanges.

Frannie is the kind of dog who makes an impression—between her soulful eyes and her signature hound bay, she’s not one to go unnoticed. She’s a gentle, easygoing walker with great leash manners and a big appreciation for slow strolls and sunny spots. Frannie gets along with other dogs and enjoys calm canine company, but she’s had some ups and downs in adoptive homes. She’s been returned more than once—once for humping her canine housemate, and twice for conflicts in the home that may have been linked to resource guarding, particularly around food or resting places. The concerns were directed toward a female in the home, and though we haven’t seen similar behavior here, it’s something to be aware of. She’s been with us at Open Door since 2021, and her longest stay in a home was just two months. We know she’s capable of so much more—but she needs the right person to help her shine. Frannie may do best in an adult-only home, ideally with a single person—possibly a man—who understands hounds, has experience with resource guarding, or is open to guidance and structure. Frannie’s not one to stay quiet when she has something to say—she’s a barker by nature and would love a home that doesn’t mind a little background commentary. In return, you’ll get a loyal, expressive companion who’s happiest lounging near her person, sniffing the breeze, and being included in your daily rhythm. Anyhow, these nice humans taking care of me here at the Stover rescue told me I am available for adoption to a good family. That is super exciting, I can hardly believe it! When I first came here I was really hungry and a little bit scared but the nice people here at the rescue fed and loved me back to my whole self and have told me that my furever family is now waiting somewhere out there for me! I was so happy to hear about you, that you are looking for me because guess what?? I have always wanted a family of my own and wow, for you to actually be reading this, that just makes my tail wag extra fast! I was super excited to have my pictures taken for you, I really hope you like them. I smiled my bestest good boy smile!
