Story
Meet Betty: 4yr old, female, Coonhound mix, 44 pounds. Betty is a sweet and gentle dog.  She is very good about handling and is excellent at toenail clipping and ear cleaning.  Betty is an excellent and quiet car passenger. She is potty trained, and she can be trusted loose in the house as long as she gets outside every 3-4 hours during the day.  She is fine all night long, even uncrated.  Betty is crate-trained as well. Betty’s leash walking skills have steadily improved while in foster care.  When out on walks, Betty still tends to pull on the leash and will need continued positive training and practice to master this skillfully. Betty would likely be best suited for someone who is home all or most of the day. We do not have any knowledge of her experience with children, therefore we recommend a home with children over age 10. A securely fenced yard with a 4ft or higher fence is necessary.  Betty gets along well with other dogs and also with cats.  If interested in adopting Betty, please complete our nonbinding application: click here to send a non-binding application

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- HARRY IS LISTED AS A COURTESY TO ANOTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATION.  PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.ASK NOT WHAT THIS HOUND CAN DO FOR YOU,BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR THIS HOUND.Harry Neil is a 10 year old walker hound who recently came to us when he no longer wanted to hunt. Having lived life on a chain, Harry Neil is now enjoying romping in a fenced yard, interacting with other dogs in his foster home and soaking up all the attention. Harry is kind and quiet and surpisingly petite! The mass on his face is a damaged salivary gland. Nothing can be done for it but it does not hurt or bother him. Henry is looking for a compassionate family who understands that he missed out on a lot of things while pursing a career in hunting. He will need extra support with house training and basic manners. Henry Neil deserves a comfy home with a wonderful family to enjoy the rest of his life! He'll pay you in kindness and gratitude.(We do not recommend hunting hounds for homes with cats.)A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Harry Neil, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other 'slow to adopt' dogs!Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, VA. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. Story
PJ comes from West Virginia. She is half Coon Hound and half standard poodle. We have raised her from a puppy. She is house broken, and sleeps in her crate. She knows simple commands and is eager to learn. She is energetic, loves to be outdoors and play fetch. We’ve taken her to the dog beach and she seems to do well with other dogs. Sadly, our family is too busy to give her the attention she needs. She would do well with a fenced in yard to play in, and another older dog to keep her company. I believe she is trainable and willing to learn, from someone who has the time and resources to do so.

Please contact Melissa A Aten (melissaa@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.hound dog awooing for his forever family! HENRY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Henry    Best Guess for Breed:   Treeing Walker Coonhound mix   Best Guess for Age:  3 years as of June 2024        SEX:   Male   Approximate Weight: 68 lbs   Gets Along With:    Henry does well with other dogs! He also passed a shelter cat test, which is a good indication that he could live with a cat. As far as we know, he never has, though. He currently lives with kids in his foster home.   Currently Living at: DC area foster home! Special adoption considerations: Henry is a truly Lucky Dog! He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process.   See this happy handsome boy in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spF6uMpiU98   Henry is Looking For:  Well, hi! I'm Henry! I'm just a good hound dog, with the typical hound's nose for adventure. I'd like to go to a home with someone whose able to take me on long, sniffy walks so I can inspect my neighborhood with my houndie nose. We live to sniff! I'd also like to be able to play with other pups sometimes. Most of all, though, I want to be safe and loved and know who my human is. What do you say? Am I the pup for you?   What My Foster Says About Me:  Henry did very well on his first night! Did awesome with the resident kids (5yo + 7yo), super people-oriented and friendly! Seems eager to please and not very vocal as of yet. Did well in crate so far. He was super excited to be out on a walk and smelling all the new smells. He is such a good boy :)   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
If you are interested in adopting Dolly, please email dogs@lostdogrescue.org Dolly will be attending one of our adoption events coming up this weekend! To learn more about our upcoming events and to see which event they will be attending, please visit our event page at https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/ (*please note that the specific event pages are typically updated on Fridays with information on which dogs will be attending which events*) And the award for most sociable goes to... Dolly! Everyone Dolly meets is a friend, humans and dogs alike. She is incredibly sweet, sensitive, and loving. She is also true to her Treeing Walker Coonhound breed - independent, hilariously and lovably goofy, very high-energy, obsessed with all the smells, and extremely eager to tell everyone (again and again) when she's discovered something to hunt. Letting her nose lead the way, Dolly has a curious nature and a passion for exploration. When out on a walk, Dolly just wants to gain all the knowledge she can about the world around her (and sniff out every single critter). When indoors, she will regularly meander into rooms with food, wearing an expression that asks, "Excuse me, is there something that needs to be eaten in here?" This silly and affectionate ball of energy is eager to learn about manners, so consistency with positive reinforcement training - especially to manage her hunting instincts - will allow her kind-hearted personality to remain prevalent. (Tip: toys with animal hides are the best rewards for her!) When not in hunting mode, she can be great at several cues like sit, come, high-five, touch, down, and belly (play dead). She's had a rough early life and needs a forever home where she can have a lot of outdoor time and patient, caring humans with an active, outdoor-oriented lifestyle.
