Meet Betty: 4yr old, female, Coonhound mix, 44 pounds. Betty is a sweet and gentle dog. She is very good about handling and is excellent at toenail clipping and ear cleaning. Betty is an excellent and quiet car passenger. She is potty trained, and she can be trusted loose in the house as long as she gets outside every 3-4 hours during the day. She is fine all night long, even uncrated. Betty is crate-trained as well. Betty’s leash walking skills have steadily improved while in foster care. When out on walks, Betty still tends to pull on the leash and will need continued positive training and practice to master this skillfully. Betty would likely be best suited for someone who is home all or most of the day. We do not have any knowledge of her experience with children, therefore we recommend a home with children over age 10. A securely fenced yard with a 4ft or higher fence is necessary. She is also true to her Treeing Walker Coonhound breed - independent, hilariously and lovably goofy, very high-energy, obsessed with all the smells, and extremely eager to tell everyone (again and again) when she's discovered something to hunt. Letting her nose lead the way, Dolly has a curious nature and a passion for exploration. When out on a walk, Dolly just wants to gain all the knowledge she can about the world around her (and sniff out every single critter). When indoors, she will regularly meander into rooms with food, wearing an expression that asks, "Excuse me, is there something that needs to be eaten in here?" This silly and affectionate ball of energy is eager to learn about manners, so consistency with positive reinforcement training - especially to manage her hunting instincts - will allow her kind-hearted personality to remain prevalent. (Tip: toys with animal hides are the best rewards for her!) When not in hunting mode, she can be great at several cues like sit, come, high-five, touch, down, and belly (play dead). Willa and Watson (siblings) came from the Brookhaven pound. We saw them on Face Book. The Brookhaven pound was going to put these puppies down because they were so shy. They couldn’t find a rescue group to take them. We decided to help them. They are super sweet, but they are very shy. Walter is not as shy as Willa. They feel very comfortable in their environment, but when taken to the vet, they do get nervous. They do respond to love, but they need somebody that will spend time with them. Because we are so overcrowded, they have never had an opportunity to live in the house. They were heavily bonded at the foster’s house, and they loved to play together. The foster did not spend any time with them, but the children played with them some in the fenced in area. They play well with other dogs, but they have never been around cats. Since they have been at Blue Ribbon Kennels, they have been in separate kennels for the past 13 months. They both need a special home with somebody that will spend a lot of time loving them, giving them a lot of attention and being patient with them. Plese help Willa, and maybe even consider adopting both of them! Willa and Watson are in Mississippi. Rescue Riders is a very reliable pet transport and will transport Willa to her new home. This is included in the adoption fee.

Poor Hopscotch was caught in a trap which took off most her front leg and a few toes on her left foot. Thankfully she was found in the feed bin of the barn of a vet tech who immediately took her to the vet. Her right leg was amputated but she gets along fine without it--she can even climb stairs! She is a sweet girl who gets along with other dogs and with kids. She does well in the car and walks well on leash. Meet Ford! Ford is a three-year-old, 37 pound Beagle mix who is loving life in his foster home. He is starting to learn the ropes with leash training and not jumping up! Ford loves to be near you and will need a stout fenced in his yard (at least 7 feet) or can walk with you on a leash. He is quiet unless the other beagles get calling, and then he has to join in! His favorite place to be is on the couch, or wherever his foster mom happens to be. This sweet boy will pay you back with all the beagle-snuggles you could ever want. Ford does have a high prey drive, but not a mean bone to him. he loves children and would be happy getting pats all day long, with some running around in the back yard or hiking the trails.
