Story
Meet Sicily
Age: Sweet and Snuggly Senior
Weight: 6 lbs but could stand to gain a bit
Breed: Toy Poodle
Good with: dogs and kids (cats unknown)
House trained (from her foster): Sicily knows that going potty outside is what she should do, and will very efficiently go outside, do her business, and come right back inside. However, due to her small size and tiny bladder, combined with the side effects from her heart medication, she needs to go outside very frequently. When not given this opportunity, she may have accidents.
Crate trained: Where she was a back yard breeder momma, crates do not hold good memories for Sicily. She does well wandering the house if her foster is not at home, but if you need to keep her in one space, the definite preference is a gate or X-pen
Likes/dislikes: Loves being held, cuddled, and getting attention. Enjoys naps in the sun, naps on the couch, naps on your lap, and naps. Definitely has FOMO (fear of missing out)
Special needs: Like many other small breed, elderly dogs, Sicily has a heart murmur and mitral valve disease. She is not showing any signs of congestive heart failure at all. She takes daily medication to keep her heart as healthy as it can be, to the tune of about $25-$30 a month. This is something that her new humans will want to keep an eye on for her.
Additional preferences: Miss Sicily would love to have someone home with her more often than not, or someone who could bring her to work with them. She currently visits her foster's office and is a joy. She thinks she would make an amazing mattress QA professional or a food tester.
Foster location: Mequon, WI
As a former breeder, Sicily will need a home where patience and love are freely given. She has made great strides, but still has much to learn about how to be a dog. Sicily is really social and seeks attention readily. Her home would also need to allow her to go potty on a very regular basis, and realized that sometimes (especially with her heart medicines) accidents happen. Doggy diapers, potty pads, washable rugs, and frequent trips outside are all greats tools.
Miss Sicily is the most amazing tiny girl! With a tongue to rival Gene Simmons and a love for every person she meets, this beauty is a perfect combination of hilarious and wonderful, guaranteed to make you happy on even your worst day. She wants nothing more to snuggle you and give you all the love that her tiny heart can give you.
Her love for people extends to dogs both larger and her own size. If a dog is in her space too much, she will let them know, but it is not an issue at all. Sicily would do ok as an only girl, but would also love to have a doggy sibling to learn from. She has never been around cats, but she is smaller than the average cat, so it would likely be just fine. A home with respectful children who realize how little she is would be ok.
