Meet Calvin, the Aussie. In his previous home, Calvin lived with men & woman and was described as social with strangers – moving towards them, jumping up to interact and wagging his tail. His favorite activities in his previous home were playing fetch and frozen enrichment toys. He lived with a cat and coexisted nicely. A home with a dog-savvy cat and a thoughtful introduction will likely be a fit moving forward. This smart cookie knows “sit”, “down”, “heel”, “place” and “crate” and also rides nicely in the car. Calvin had a male beagle friend that he liked to romp around with but did not live with any other dogs. At the Shelter, Calvin has been curious with dogs but not quite sure what to do when they solicit play. Please note: Our Santa Cruz Location is open from 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

He has enjoyed learning about the world around him and new skills through positive reinforcement based training. His particular high value reinforcement is playing fetch with toys, which makes it real fun! If you are into dog sports, have herding breed experience, and are looking for a companion... you may have met your match!Please note: Our Santa Cruz Location is open from 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Meet Lilly, the border collie mix! This shy sweetheart came into the Shelter very unsure about new people and the world around her. A foster family took her in and she has really blossomed. They report: “Our girl is a sweetheart! She is cautious with of new people but warms up once she’s gotten to know them. She LOVES Bernard (the resident Great Pyrenees) and is respectful. Lilly has a favorite toy: the corduroy snowman! She absolutely loves it. She is great at using pee pads and not quite ready for prime time going outside in the yard.” Although Lilly has made great progress in her foster home, she is still more of the wallflower type and is looking for a dog savvy adopter. She gains a lot of confidence from being around other dogs so it is required she go to a home with other dogs who are looking for a youngin’ to be their shadow and join in on all of life’s adventures!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day.
