Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 2/1/2022 Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Posh is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 02/09/22 Posh had entropion repair on his lower eyelid. He also had a dental polishing and a deep ear cleaning. Posh can be prone to ear infections. Keeping his ears clean is imperative.  Weight: 45 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Posh is an active dog that has had a lot of change over the last 8 months. He needs stability and patience and continued socialization. Posh is an alpha male and needs an owner that will commit to positive reinforcement training and redirection of behaviors. Posh prefers women to men so an alpha female owner is his ideal home. Posh could live with other dogs (he always has) or be the only dog. Posh is not good with children and will not be placed in a home with children. He requires SLOW introductions to new people. What is my personality like? Posh and his brother Hans were the beloved companions of a single professional. Sadly, significant health challenges made caring for Posh impossible and he was surrendered to rescue to help him find the right forever home.  Posh's owner describes him as a a big, happy love bug - he thinks he is a toy poodle lap dog! He loves to give big hugs and kisses. Posh is not fond of the vet or of grooming but with lots of gentle persuasion it can be managed.  Here is what our caregivers say about this beautiful boy. Posh is a sweet boy that is looking for a mama. The reason I say “mama” is because posh takes direction from women very easily where as he is a little slower to warm up with men. He needs someone that can keep him in line. He is all boy! Posh does well with other dogs; he enjoys the company of dogs his size. Occasionally when he’s over stimulated you’ll have to correct him and let him know he’s being a little too much. Posh is not the best with strangers - you have to buy this boy's love with treats and patience. He does not appreciate being approached without permission and will let you now his displeasure. Posh slightly pulls on a leash and will need some leash training. He would excel at any type of positive reinforcement training as he is very intelligent. Posh loves belly rubs and does very good about keeping his crate clean. It is required posh have a crate in the home this will help his transition to a new environment as well as give him a place to retreat to when he’s feeling overwhelmed. How do I act when I first meet new people? A little timid, but incredibly treat motivated Other tips and tidbits: Posh is 3.5 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 2/1/2019. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. November 5, 2024, 5:31 pm

Jules Verne is a very special boy with a very congenital brain disorder called polymircogyria. This condition has only been reported in 4 canines (all Standard Poodles) and few cattle. Some of the symptoms accompanied with Jules’ condition include vision impairment, some hearing loss, loss of sense of balance, loss of motor skills, and (sometimes) very fast, sudden, uncontrollable movements of the limbs. Due to this condition he is vision impaired and only hears high pitched sounds. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines. If you are considering welcoming this special boy into your home, please do your research on this condition in dogs. We will also happily discuss all that we know with you and share detailed medical reports from the neurologists that have seen Jules Verne and diagnosed him. Weight: 42 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: No Adoption Fee: $1 - I am priceless Fence needed? Yes, Jules requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller What kind of home would be best for me? There are dogs that are special, and then there is Jules Verne. He is one of only 4 known diagnosed cases of his brain disorder. Lack of vision and hearing do not slow him down - he is the happiest, most playful boy you will meet. There is simply nothing better than watching Jules Verne play and live his best life! We are looking for a home that will understand and appreciate Jules Verne for who he is. His normal will always look different than other dogs. He would be happy with another large female dog, or as your only pet. No small dogs or cats please. Jules Verne wants a home where he can play, enjoy a fenced yard, and where someone will appreciate his uniqueness and recognize the beauty it creates. He is not well suited for a home with children. What is my personality like? Jules Verne. What a boy! Jules was rehomed for free from his breeder as a puppy part of a difficult birth and and a mom that wouldn't nurse. The family that welcomed him quickly realized something was not "normal". Their standard poodle puppy was wobbly, didn't seem to be able to be seen, and was just off. Over a month he only seemed to get worse and was ultimately diagnosed by their vet as having suspected brain lesions. The vet recommended euthanasia. The family was overwhelmed and reached out to rescue for help. Upon arrival in rescue, we recognized that Jules was definitely vision impaired and also hearing impaired. He only hears high pitched sounds. His owners had suggested he may have seizures. So we set out on a journey to understand what we were working with. Our first effort was to rule out a liver shunt. Thankfully, Jules Verne's liver functions just fine. Next up was a neurology consult and MRI. The MRI revealed that Jules Verne has a rare, congenital brain disorder called polymicrogyria. This condition has been rarely described in dogs, but in humans the prognosis appears to be variable for each individual case. It can lead to seizures and behavioral changes over time. There are no other dogs quite like Jules Verne. Although Jules has a rare neurological condition that has greatly affected his brain since being in utero, this boy is as sweet as you could ever imagine to his people. Jules absolutely loves and adores the people he trusts the most. Once you and Jules spend enough time together, he will love you for as long as he lives. While Jules can coexist with other male dogs, he can be selective with the male dogs that he likes. He definitely prefers female canine companions over males. You can occasionally sneak a peek of Jules playing with his lady friends, and other times, you can catch him doing his own thing whether that be napping in the sun, sniffing everything out, or simply romping about by himself. Jules also absolutely LOVES toys; specifically durable rubber ones. He will eventually find a way to destroy each toy piece by piece, but is perfectly content receiving a brand new one to have fun with. Another thing about Jules is he has to have his safe space. His just so happens to be his crate. Jules will willingly go in and out of his crate as he pleases, though sometimes he could use a bit of help from his favorite human going in or coming out. Jules is always on the go, no matter the day, rain or shine. This boy has lots of energy on his good days, and can be a bit reserved on other days. Another thing about Jules, is that he LOVES food. Kibble, treats, snacks, anything that he deems good enough, is the key to this boys heart. Jules has no idea that he is different than all of the other dogs. From the people that know and love Jules, he is just as normal and quirky as any other canine. Once Jules considers you trustworthy and a relationship is created, Jules will show his sweet, loving, and affectionate demeanor to them. Jules is a very special boy who is loved by so so many, different or not. In all reality, it’s Jules Vernes’ world, and we’re all just living in it. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly Other tips and tidbits: Jules Verne's birthday is 12/11/2020 House trained?
