Do you like long walks, snuggles on the couch and kisses? Then Tate’s the dog for you. He’s a three year old apricot coloured, Moyen poodle. He weighs 19 kg and he is 3yrs old and he is pretty much perfection! Tate came from a puppy mill but hasn’t let that slow him down from living life at the fullest now. He has completed two 5K run/walks with park run at Victoria park. He was introduced to many new things squirrels, geese, dogs, bridges, many humans both running and walking, this is where he took his first treat from a human he did not know. Tate walks great on a leash with little pulling and sits when you stop. He is a dog that really wants to please and training him is a joy. He is an energetic poodle who loves interacting with his humans. He is still a bit nervous meeting new people but is won over easily with affection. He will stand on his hind legs when returning from a walk whether to clean his paws or whatever needs to be done or give you a hug! Or stand on his back feet to greet you when you enter the room. He reminds us of a circus poodle as his go to move is standing on his hind legs! Tate wants to be near his human and craves cuddles on your favourite chair. He is a loving dog to everyone and gets along with other dogs and humans . Tate loves a good snuggle at the end of a busy day and is a very affectionate dog with his people. He is crate trained and protests for a short time and then goes to sleep. He usually sleeps until 7-8 am. He can will bark in his crate when he is ready to get up and outside when he wants to come in. He is a Poodle so will use his voice to communicate. He sleeps in the same area of the living room at all times and when taken out of crate he automatically goes to this spot as he has claimed it as his personal space. Tate has mastered the leash after 2 days and is enjoying discovering his new world out there. He will stop and look around if there is a person nearby and check them out. He loves his walks and is getting used to noises and movements in his environment and humans. He does not appear to have a prey drive. He has noticed squirrels with little or no interest and one dog with curiosity and respect from a distance He is on a long lead outside at his fosters home and will come when called although he does get silly and will run around the yard. Tate has mastered the crate and enjoys the safety and comfort of the crate from day one and goes in voluntarily for the night without protest. As always obedience training is necessary and required to attend. Tate will love the challenge and social stimulation. He is a very intelligent dog and we will be looking for a person or family for him that is wishing to go beyond basic obedience to the advanced levels . As a working breed, he needs the mental stimulation and challenges presented in the advanced classes. Home life should include a detached home with an active family that enjoys being outside and going for walks or hikes and of course quiet times. Tate will love being introduced to new adventures . He is a young and energetic working dog so needs to be adequately exercised to be happy. He needs fast paced walks (with the potential for runs!) of a good distance. We can’t forget the working dog’s need for stimulation and exercise. Although he loves cuddles, he is not a “lap dog” and needs his people to do things with him and keep him fit, both physically and mentally. Older children, over the age of 8yrs, who are dog savvy and will give Tate guidance and space as required is advised. As a mill dog he is still adjusting to life outside of a barn and loud noises, busy environments and a lot of commotion are overwhelming for him, so we are looking for a quieter home for him where he can adapt to his new life at his own pace. Tate is also looking for a home in a rural area, small town, or quiet subdivision. He will not be a suitable dog for a busy urban area or on a main road. Tate currently is in his crate twice daily for a few hours while foster is away and at night and will sleep quietly the whole night. Then outside for stretching and exercise. He would not enjoy a home where his people are away for a full workday and we are looking for a home for him where someone is around more than away. He is house trained and is he is taken outside many times daily. Tate is great in the car and is very quiet during travels. He likes to look out of the window. He has gotten car sick once, advised no food prior to car travel. To date Tate is familiar with is “sit” look, come, in, crate, Stay. Being a Poodle Tate has a high grooming and coat maintenance requirement. He will need professional grooming every couple months with daily brushing and detangling in between. He doesn’t shed so his coat needs to be kept tidy to avoid matting. If you don’t enjoy brushing a dog or don’t want the maintenance of a coat that needs a lot of care, then he won’t be the dog for you. If Tate sounds like the dog for you and you can provide a nurturing home and lots of adventures then he might just be the dog for you. He would love to show you how he stands on his back feet and wraps his paws around your leg waiting for his next adventure. You will not be disappointed and will fall in love with him. Tate looks forward to many new adventures, discovering who he is and what he likes. And of course quiet time with his forever family.
