Story
Lexi / Spayed Female / 1.5 Years / Poodle Mix / 45lbs / Dogs: Not in Home / Cats: Yes / Kids: 13+ / Location: Port Colborne Meet Lexi, a playful and affectionate poodle mix who’s a little bit of everything—rumored to have some German Shepherd, hound, and more in her! She’s turning two this April and is ready to find her forever home. Lexi is a cuddle lover who enjoys fetch, trail walks, and running around outside. Bonus: her recall is fantastic! While Lexi can be a bit jealous of sharing her humans, she’s a social butterfly when it comes to playing with other dogs—just not in her own home. Because of this, we’re looking for a no-pet home where Lexi can be the one and only dog, soaking up all the love and attention she deserves. She’s house and crate trained, and she’s a dream in the car—perfect for road trips or tag-along adventures! Great news—Lexi is also good with cats! She wouldn’t mind sharing her home with a cat (or a few), so if you have feline friends, she’s all for it! Lexi would thrive in an active household, especially one that loves outdoor activities like hiking. She’s met some kids and did well with them, but due to her high energy, we recommend older kids who can keep up with her! Lexi is sweet, affectionate, and has come so far on her journey. We can’t wait to see her continue to grow and flourish in her forever family. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who’s ready for adventure, Lexi might just be the one for you! Lexi is spayed, vaccinated, and is microchipped. She is being fostered in Port Colborne. Apply to Adopt! https://forms.gle/LYPUZurhowtBTNYE8

Story
CAMBRIDGE, ON - Thank you for your interest in Bubbles. His story is, unfortunately, one we know all too well. "Hi, I have a dog that I'm not going to use for breeding anymore, and I don't want him. You can have him. By the way, will you pay me anything for him?" This is a conversation we often have with the owners of commercial breeding farms. Bubbles was dropped off at our colleagues' location, and from there, we picked him up. The dog we met that day would break your heart. He was in rough shape—both physically and mentally. One of our dedicated volunteers rushed to get him, driving across the city of Toronto to bring him to his foster home. He was so fearful that she carried him inside while he was still in the crate, worried that he might panic and try to run. We wanted Bubbles to have a much-needed bath, but he was too scared. Even after a few days, he wouldn't let us touch his legs, feet, or hind end. While there are small signs that he may have known kindness at some point in his past, he remains extremely timid—especially with sudden movements and loud noises. But from now on, Bubbles will only know kindness.

Story
Courtesy Post   This gorgeous girl is London the "Sheepadoodle".  London is a sensitive soul who has struggled to adapt to the loss of her canine roommate and moving homes.  Prior to the changes, she was able to be left alone with the other dog without barking or showing signs of anxiety.  Her owner feels it would be best if London was rehomed to a home that is better able to meet her needs.  Her ideal home would be a detached property with a fenced yard, someone home more often than not, and someone interested in continuing to work with her generalized anxiety, dietary needs, and allergies.  Another dog in the home would likely also be helpful for London and her new family.  She is an intelligent, active dog who require both physical and mental stimulation to thrive.  If you enjoy training and/or doing activities with your dog like brain games or scent work London would likely be a great fit for you!   Name: London Breed: Standard Poodle and Sheepdog Mix Weight: 60 pounds Gender: Female Spayed/neutered: Spayed Age: 2 years (DOB May 10/22) Obtained From: Farm near London that bred Sheepdogs and also bred a litter of Sheepdog/Poodle mixes. Reason for Rehoming: Owner has to go back to work in the office full-time and London is anxious when left alone.  London also has allergies and anxiety and her owner can not afford her ongoing care. Up to Date with Vetting: Yes Good with dogs: Yes.  She lived with a Golden mix previously.  She goes to the dog park most days and plays well with the other dogs there.  She is more comfortable with dogs her size or smaller.  On leash walks she may go to the end of the leash and bark at other dogs. Good with cats: She has not lived with a cat but visited a home with a cat and avoided the cat. Good with kids: She lives with a 12 year old and is good with them.  No experience with babies/toddlers.  She needs time to get comfortable with new people. Good with strangers: If a stranger comes to visit she will bark and avoid them.  It takes time for her to feel safe with visitors-usually one visit.  They have had better success with taking her outside when strangers visit and then having everyone come in the house.   Resource guarding issues: No Ever bitten a human: No Ever bitten a dog: No Fears: Described as anxious in general.  Strangers.  Being handled by strangers.  Car rides.  Going outside in the dark.  Being left alone. Housetrained: Yes.  Used to toileting on leash walks. Crate trained: They have a crate set up that she will go in and sleep in.  When boarded she was crated and did well in the crate but they have not used a crate regularly and have just reintroduced it.  She is anxious if they crate her and try to leave her alone. Good in the car: She drools and pants.  She does not drool if on anti-anxiety medication.  She was in a car accident when she was 6 months old and has been anxious in the car since. Bark when left alone: Yes.  When she was living with another dog and when she was boarded with other dogs she could be left alone without barking, however, now that the other dog is not living with her, she will bark when left alone.  They have had noise complaints.  They worked with a trainer and were able to work up to leaving her alone for an hour with minimal barking.  That seems to be the maximum time she can cope with being alone currently. Destructive: No. Energy Level: Medium high. Leash skills: She gets very excited to go for a walk and pulls all the way to the dog park.  On the way home she walks nicely.  She may run to the end of the leash and bark when she sees other dogs.  If it is dark she will alarm bark at strangers she sees outside.  She may also be afraid of cars on walks and keep turning around when strangers are walking behind them. Okay with physical handling/manipulations: She is professionally groomed.  Several groomers have said she is uncomfortable being groomed and may whip her head around during grooming.  Fluoxetine helped her cope with grooming and a new groomer recently said she was fine to groom.  She has needed ear drops and her owner could give them. Known commands: Sit, stay, come, lie down, wait, paw, wave. Food on now: Carna4 Lamb.  3 cups/day. Behavioural issues: Anxious/fearful.  Anxious and barks when left alone.  Afraid of strangers and being handled by strangers.  Afraid of the dark and anxious in the car. Medical issues: Allergies/sensitivities to some grooming products and dog foods.  They have tried various dog foods.  The current one agrees with her.  She is also on 16 mg of daily Apoquel.  She has previously taken Trazadone 100 mg for grooms and Fluoxetine 30 mg/day which did help.   March 9, 2025, 9:34 pm
