Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hey there, I'm Phillip, your potential new best buddy! Let me tell you a little about myself. At home, I'm all about love and cuddles. I'm sweet, eager to please, and always up for some quality couch time while we watch TV together. I might startle easily at sudden noises, but I'm getting better at adjusting to new sounds and situations. And guess what? I'm a total foodie! Treats are my jam, especially if you're tossing them for me to chase. Now, when it comes to outdoor adventures, I'm slowly but surely gaining confidence. Short walks around the neighborhood are becoming more enjoyable, and I'm getting the hang of this whole leash thing. While I may bark at strangers passing by, I promise I'm just trying to protect my home turf! I do require a fenced yard in my forever home, I have a lot of energy and a yard would be perfect for me to have the freedom to do zoomies and sniff all the wonderful outside things. I have been good with dogs both big and small that I have encountered. If there is another dog in my forever home, a calm and low-energy companion would be best.  What else can I say about myself? Well, I'm a playful guy who loves chasing toys and racing around the yard. And did I mention I'm smart? I'm eager to learn new tricks and skills, so if you're up for some training sessions, count me in! We are learning to play fetch … well I’m learning, my people know how already. I love to chase toys, but sometimes act like a clown and forget to bring them back. Some of my other favorite things are dog puzzles - I am a very smart boy and love activities that keep my mind busy! Overall, I'm just a charming, loving, and funny fella who's on the lookout for his perfect match. If you're seeking a loyal companion who's equal parts cuddly and playful, then look no further—I'm your guy! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!       Hi I'm Mr Whipple!  I'm a gorgeous boy who's always ready for fun!  I adore toys, but do need toys that are size appropriate.  I get a little too excited about them and my foster mama is afraid I might accidentally swallow them if they're too small.  I love racing around with them in my mouth and playing keep away from my doggie friends.  I've also been known to steal my friends blankies and run around with them too.  I'm fun and sneaky haha!  I've never had toys before so once the newness wears off I'll likely calm down on all the toy stealing.  I can be a bit shy in new places and with new people.  The secret is to get down closer to my level when we meet and I'll walk up and probably give you kisses!  That's my loveable side shining through!  My greatest weakness is ear scratches.  I just melt!  I'm doing well with potty and kennel training.  I've just begun trying that leash thing and it's a bit scary since I've never seen one before.  A fenced in yard would be great since I have not yet learned how to potty on a leash, but I am a smart guy and if you are willing to work with me on this, we can master it together.  If  you don't have a fence, a quiet street that isn't super overwhelming would be great to start out on!  Foster mom says I'm going to love being able to go on walks where I can explore the world because she says she can see a true adventurer in me.  Let's explore the world together! I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. If you are looking for a best friend, please fill out the puppy application. The more info you include on the application the better so I can find a good match for my forever home. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.  We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.   Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application. We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Story
Please welcome Mr. Tumnus, or Mister to his friends! This handsome young man comes to The Rescue Crew from his hometown of Minneapolis, where he ended up hanging out with Animal Control.  Today, Mister is busy learning all about the home life! He's been working hard to learn to sit for attention and wait his turn instead of spinning in circles like a wierdo. He loves to play in the yard, and has discovered the wonders of human affection. In fact, he loves his time with people so much that he let his foster know that his dream is to have a human all to himself. Hey, sharing's not for everyone. Mister is more comfortable with smaller dogs - like the his new friend Uncle Buck, a playful terrier who has made friends with him - so he may be open to negotiation on the no-sharing front, but slow intros should be expected with any canine friends.  Mister thrives on his enthusiasm for life. As he learns about all the good things life has to offer, he can't help but to tell the world how happy he is (shared walls are not for him). This happy-go-lucky canine thinks the world is all for him and him alone, and he is hoping for a home that will share his love of adventure and joy for life while also providing structure and enrichment activities. Mister is still working on potty training - he's making progress, but he's not quite there, so his new home will need to continue with this work. Someone home more othen than not would probably help, but he will get there given time! ##1892153##

Story
This handsome fella is a little camera shy after trading in his matted coat for a fresh summer do. But ohhh, just wait till all the gorgeousness grows back! It’s hard to charm the ladies when you can’t even see them. If you love companionship, this guy is for you. He loves people and wants to be at their side as much as possible – a typical doodle trait. Monty will do best in an active environment - lots of outside playtime with you in his own yard. He is learning boundaries (like no counter surfing allowed), loves his ball so much that he forgets to bring it back to you, car rides and chatting with drive-through workers! He wants to hug you and is learning to be a bit gentler when sharing the love. Although he is learning that a kennel isn’t a bad thing, he’d still rather sleep in your room with you. He already knows “sit”, “shake” and is working on “down”. He is not a fan of bicycles so he might be more comfortable in a lower traffic environment. ##2066033##

Story
I need a temp July 10-14 From Foster: Meet Shadow, the sweetest boy, who is truly scared of his own shadow. Shadow is going to need a truly special adopter willing to give him the time and space he needs to eventually trust people. Our best guess is that Shadow is likely a labradoodle - he was a breeder release from a puppy mill situation. Shadow is terrified of humans. We believe he was hit/abused and likely never had a single positive interaction with a human prior to being rescued. Shadow is scared of all people, but especially men, so for the last 6 weeks since he's been in rescue, his foster mom has been the sole person caring for him so he can slowly start to trust one person at a time. He has learned to trust her a little but he is still extremely skittish when she's around and often chooses to be in his kennel if she (or any person) enters the room. When taken out on a leash to potty, he is very skittish and constantly darts his vision back and forth between looking ahead and looking at his foster mom to see if she will make sudden movements. He startles at the sound of rustling leaves, loud cars, or even things like coughing or sneezing. The sound of dribbling basketballs from the neighbor kids or a lawn mower is especially frightening for him and he will try to pull to get away from the sound. Shadow is a huge flight risk. He has already escaped his foster home when he jumped a baby gate inside and followed his foster mom out the front door. It was a scary couple hours while she worked to follow him around the city and get him close enough to her in order to grab him. It will be important to double leash Shadow when outside, even if you have a fence, as he will not willingly come back inside and is very hard to catch, particularly until he trusts you more. Shadow's ideal home will have a 6 foot fence that will allow him room to explore away from humans without being something he can jump over. It's important to note that if you have a deck or any small space he can hide under or in outside, Shadow will find it and hide in it and not come out. Minimizing Shadow's risk of escaping will likely include the use of extra tall baby gates in your home. He can jump normal baby gates so we recently installed a 5 foot one. Eye contact is scary for Shadow. He prefers that you don't look directly at him when talking to him. It will be important for an adopter to follow Shadow's cues and let him come to you (which so far has only happened twice in 5 weeks for his foster mom). Both times involved other dogs in the home coming near her where he tried to mimic them. For this reason, it will be a necessity that there is another dog in the home who is friendly and confident as this will help model positive dog/human interaction for Shadow. Shadow does great with other dogs - in fact other dogs are the ONLY thing he isn't scared of. When humans are not around, we have seen him play with other dogs on our cameras and it's so fun to see him relax when people are not around. Shadow is potty trained, however he will sometimes pee or poop inside when frightened. This has happened from thunderstorms and people startling/scaring him. He will not willingly get in a vehicle and has to be picked up and put in the car. Because of his breed, he will need regular brushing and grooming and due to his anxiety, he would benefit from someone able to do this grooming in his own home. Shadow's kennel is his safe place and his adopter will need to get a similar safe place set up for him that he has access to go in and out of. Doing so will give him a place to retreat to when scared but will allow him to come out of it when he feels comfortable. Shadow takes anxiety meds twice per day. He does not willingly take these on his own so his foster mom hides them in cheese and has to physically open his mouth and put them far enough back that he'll swallow them. Shadow does not eat or drink anything if humans are around. Occasionally he will refuse to eat a meal at all, but will sometimes eat it a few hours later. He eats and drinks in his kennel and waits until people have left the room to do so. He does not eat treats and is not food motivated at all - likely because he's too scared to eat in the presence of people. Once Shadow is adopted, his world will need to be kept very small for quite some time. This would mean not bringing him anywhere except your yard and vet and also not having him meet a lot of people. It's unknown how he would do with kids, but it would be reasonable to have older, considerate children only in the home as small children and their sudden movements will likely scare him too much. Anything loud or sudden is very scary for him. Shadow is not currently the type of dog who is going to give you affection or any clear sign that he even likes you. Our hope is that he eventually will but his adopter should be prepared for this to take many, many months and even still it's not a guarantee. His progress has been 1 step forward, 3 steps back. He has had very small breakthroughs but they are incredibly rewarding to see. It is our hope that this bio of Shadow scares the majority of people off because while he's a cute doodle, it's important to know how absolutely broken Shadow is and how incredibly long his journey to a "normal dog is going to be. Shadow needs an adopter who is willing to put in very hard work without seeing much reward for a long time, while knowing that they are giving a very scared and abused dog an opportunity to know what real love looks like and that people can be trusted after all. To see videos of Shadow's journey so far, you can check out "The Joneses Foster on Instagram and Facebook.

Story
Hazel is a 7.5 year old poodle who spent the first 7 years of her life in a puppy mill situation. She is a very sweet girl, but is timid and slow to warm up to new people. She loves to be outside, to take naps and short walks, loves being pet when she’s comfortable with you. She does great on a leash, with grooming, at doggy daycare when needed, riding in the car, and even going to dog-friendly stores. She takes treats so gentle, even from our 2 year old! Hazel’s biggest challenge is her anxiety - she does not like to be left alone indoors (she does fine alone outside). She would do best in a home with a doggy door where she can control when she goes outside/inside. And she would do great in a home with another dog.
