Story
Marcel is a 2.5-year-old, 45-pound standard poodle who was born and raised in an Amish puppy mill. His early life was far from ideal, as he spent his beginning in a confined and stressful environment, used solely for breeding. Despite these tough beginnings, Marcel's gentle nature has always shone through. He is skittish, a trait shaped by his limited exposure to the outside world and human interaction. Loud noises and sudden movements can easily startle him, but beneath this nervous exterior lies a sweet and loving soul. With a soft touch and kind words, Marcel quickly warms up, revealing his gentle disposition. Marcel is making great progress in his new life away from the mill. He is adjusting well to crate training, finding comfort in having his own space, and he is housebroken. This small, secure area helps him feel at ease as he explores his surroundings. A securely fenced yard is essential for Marcel since he has realized that the outside world is not as frightening as he once thought. Every day, Marcel shows progress. He follows his foster mom around the house and even rested his chin on her knee for pets. With patience and care, he is slowly discovering the joys of being a cherished pet rather than a breeding dog. His journey is one of resilience and hope as he learns to trust, love, and be loved in return. Marcel is fostered in the Cincinnati, OH area. His adoption fee is $300.00. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Meet Umbra! She's a one-year-old female poodle weighing 40 pounds. Umbra was found as a stray and was severely underweight. It appeared she had never been groomed, as her coat was a matted mess. She's also quite undersocialized, clinging closely to her foster mom, hoping not to be left again. Umbra is currently learning how to be a dog. She has already mastered crate training and potty training (though she sometimes dribbles a bit when she gets excited). She's still working on improving her leash skills. Umbra is also hard at work on her manners. She's very affectionate and loves being close to people, often getting into personal space to show her love. However, she responds well to redirection. With her medium to high energy levels, Umbra would thrive in an active household where she can burn off her youthful energy. She would do well as an only dog or with other dogs of similar size and energy. However, she can be a bit overwhelming for smaller or older dogs who prefer their space. Umbra is comfortable with both men and women, but she hasn't had the opportunity to meet children or cats yet. She enjoys playing in the yard and loves games of fetch with her stuffies or tennis balls. Above all, Umbra is happiest when she's as close as possible to her human. Umbra is currently being fostered in the Cincinnati area, and her adoption fee is $300.
