Story
Hello, I'm Chatter! A name that suits me to a T, because I love to chat. I'm a sweet, friendly, curious, funny, and smart pooch. I'm a quick learner, you see. I seem to get along good with cats and other dogs. I'm a good boy who likes car rides and is potty-trained. If you're looking for a loyal companion who'll keep you entertained with my chatty antics, then I'm your guy! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. No need to call to find out about me, you can ask questions on the application or email questions to info@polkcountyhumanesociety.org. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2017631##

Story
Hi there, it's Dottie! I may be a senior lady now (12+ years young!), but I've still got plenty of love to give. My foster family is wonderful, and since my forever family never came forward, they've kindly offered to let me live out my golden years with them. At this stage in life, it would be devastating for me to be moved, so I'm incredibly thankful that I can stay with my foster family, where I feel safe and loved. Being a senior dog can be a little costly, and while I don't want to be a burden to the shelter, I also know how much they've done for me over the years. When I had no one else, they took me in, and they've never turned their back on me or my friends when we needed them the most. Now, I just want to do my part to help them too. Would you consider donating to my care so I can live out my golden years without putting extra strain on the shelter? Whether it's a one-time or monthly donation, every bit helps ensure I stay happy and healthy without being a burden. Your support would mean the world to me and my friends at the shelter. Thank you so much for considering helping me. https://givebutter.com/SPRdottie With love and paw-shakes, Dottie

Story
Mickey is a mature but still playful guy. He is back with his original foster because his adoptive family have a young child and a new baby and no time for him. He gets along well with the 2 other dogs in the home, but would do best as an only dog. He has always been around cats, so a cat or two would be fine. He loves to play fetch, loves toys, and also loves to chill on the floor in the same room as his humans. And oh, he gets his name from the brindle Mickey Mouse on his back!! **If you would like to adopt, please fill out an adoption form which can be found on the animal's profile page at www.straypawsrescue.com

Story
Meet Harley a 10 month old Staffordshire and American Bulldog mix weighing 40 lbs.  Harley is a silly girl who is head strong but very loving.  She needs a patient and committed family that will spend the time to train her as she is very smart; too smart. she will make a great addition to an active family that wants to include her in their activities. She loves all people, especially kids, gets along with most dogs, and has never been cat tested. She is currently in a home with big and small dogs and chickens and she is great with all of them.  I would say she is potty trained but we have a doggy door so not sure how she would do without a doggie door. Would need to be re-trained. She has the highest bark I’ve ever heard and I think she could actually break glass.    Harley’s requirements are as follows: Fenced yard Someone who is home a lot as she just loves to be with her people  Another playful dog and/or kids to play with Active familyAll pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on a flea/tick preventative.  Cats are tested for FIV/FeLV and dogs are tested for heartworms. Adoption fee is $110 for cats and $150 for dogs. To meet this pet, please fill out a dog application or cat application.  Not able to adopt?  Inquire about fostering or sponsoring this pet.  For more information visit www.allpawsrescue.info.  October 23, 2024, 2:52 pm

Story
Magoo is a lover not a fighter, but because of his lack of socialization and his messed up beginnings he is afraid of other dogs - so when confronted his 130lbs of fear step in and he gets defensive. He needs an owner with experience to guide and protect him from any possible bad decisions. Serious inquiries only!! Currently he is listed as a "forever lucky one" looking for a perfect person to help him be the best dog he can be!! Until he gets the training and commitment to become adoptable, he will remain a forever lucky one. What does that mean? Due to health and sometime behaviors all dogs in our Forever Lucky One program live in long-term foster homes. Lucky K9 covers all costs associated with their care. The forever foster family provides a loving home for the remainder of their days. Lucky K9 continues their medical care for the remainder of their lives. Sanctuary dogs typically have life long needs that prevent them from being adopted, but deserve the individual care provided by living in a home. If you would like to donate to our sanctuary program you can do so by going to the following link: https://donorbox.org/one-time-or-monthly-giving-program (copy/paste link in your browser if it doesn't open automatically)
