Story
Meet Pegasus, a 2 year old deaf pittie. She is a sweet, goofy girl with lots of energy. At right around 40 pounds she's a wonderful medium size! Active, but very manageable. Pegasus likes other playful dogs. She would love to have a home with another active dog to run around and play with. Don't let the fact that Pegasus is deaf scare you! Most of the time you wouldn't even realize she is. She's attentive, smart, food motivated, and eager to learn. She has been learning some hand signals and already knows a few commands such as 'sit', 'lay', and 'shake'. She loves to cuddle on the couch and generally be around her people. She likes to go for walks. She pulls a little but is working on her leash manners. She likes to play with toys, chew on bully sticks, and do doggy puzzles.
Pegasus has had a rough start to life and has never had much structure; therefore, like most young dogs she needs help with her manners. She does have some behaviors you must be willing to work with if you decide to add her into your family. First, she sometimes needs slow introductions to humans. Once she warms up to you, she will forever love you. So much so, you'll think she is stuck to you like Velcro. She gives great kisses and is a champion snuggler.
Secondly, Pegasus does have some separation and confinement anxiety. She is working on her crate training and is doing better. Lastly, she can be mouthy when she plays. For this reason, we recommend she goes to a home without smaller children as she doesn't understand bite inhibition with play quite yet. She does bark a little bit in her kennel until she settles down, so wouldn't be a good fit for a home with shared walls at this time. We assure you, Pegasus is working on all these behaviors in her foster home, and has been making great strides, but will need continued training, diligence, and consistency in order for her to be the best dog she can be. She would be perfect for someone who knows a little about training dogs and wants to expand into learning how to work with deaf dogs. It's pretty fun learning all the ASL signs that can be used and she picks things up so quickly!
We know she has her quirks, but adopting Pegasus means inviting a whirlwind of joy into your life. She's ready to bring laughter, companionship, and endless play into her forever home. Thanks to a generous donation, Pegasus's adoption fee is being sponsored.
