Story

Piper is a very attentive anxious dog. She loves to cuddle and can never be too close. You will always know if someone or something is around as they enter her space. She is a great dog for an experienced couple with no kids or a farm dog she does stay close but will wonder a little bit away and do her own thing. She is not destructive unless it is a stuffed toy and then it must be de fluffed to completion. We are rehoming her after having her for 6 years because she started showing aggression (growling snarled)to our children when startled and we just do not feel comfortable with her around our children anymore. We have her on anxiety meds and those seem to have helped but unfortunately that is not a permanent fix and we would love to see her go to a place where she can have space to roam and swim. She has been around other dogs and cats and has had little tiffs but nothing major but I feel like she is more relaxed w/o any other animals.

Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). My foster family is wonderful, and since my forever family never came forward, they've kindly offered to let me live out my golden years with them. At this stage in life, it would be devastating for me to be moved, so I'm incredibly thankful that I can stay with my foster family, where I feel safe and loved. Being a senior dog can be a little costly, and while I don't want to be a burden to the shelter, I also know how much they've done for me over the years.
