Story
Ebbie is one of our longtime guests, recently reaching the 6-year mark. He lives in his own air-conditioned, heated cottage on the property and has a little courtyard in which to sun himself. But, a shelter is not a home, no matter how "special" your digs are. Everything about Ebbie is solid -- his stature, his energy, the confidence with which he carries himself. He's a guy who attaches deeply to his human, sometimes a little too deeply, causing him to feel like he needs to protect them from strangers. For that reason, Ebbie, 10, would do well in a low-traffic, lower-stress home. He would thrive with a routine and a little structure to his days. He likes knowing what to expect, as do we. He is very loyal and endearing and he adores his shelter friends. He knows his basic commands and is polite and self-assured. He loves to lounge around and take it slow.

Story
I acquired her from a friend of my granddaughter when she was six weeks old. The owners were moving and already had the mom and dad as pets. Deborah Ann is three years old. Her birthday is January 1. I am looking for a good home for her because I am eighty years old with chronic back problems. I have had several surgeries, and I am not able to walk Deborah or even play with her in the yard. She is very energetic but very loving. She loves to be rubbed, especially her head and chest. I want Deborah Ann to be in a home where she is properly cared for and loved. That is why I refuse to put her in a county shelter for fear that she would be euthanized.

Story
Meet Mateo! Someone found him with a badly broken leg, and the man he was microchipped to said to euthanize him. Now his leg has been amputated, and he is up to date on all his shots. About him: * Super sweet. * Loves to give kisses, smile, and cuddle. * Rarely barks. * Potty-trained. * Short fur and doesn’t seem to shed a lot! * Barely chews anything, and loves toys and peanut butter. * NEVER scratches on door or whines. * Good with some other dogs while outside (He does grumble and get territorial inside, so he needs to be in a house that is cat and dog free, but NO aggression ever with people). * Not phased by thunder. * Loves to run. (Even with missing back right leg, he does wonderful!) * Waits for me in bed at night when I go out the back door. * Needs to work on walking by your side, which should be easy to teach him if alone. (I have several dogs so always I walk two at a time!) He weighs 50ish lbs, and is 2 years old. He is honestly a perfect boy with people.

Story
Please contact Tammy for more information about this pet.Easy-going family manHector is a mature gentleman who is pretty low-key but still enjoys romps around the yard and most definitely cuddles. Hector is currently in home boarding as we continue to search for his forever home. His caretaker says he's charming and she loves having him around.  Hector was a county shelter dog adopted by someone nearby. Despite being found roaming and returned to his adopter many times, Hector's resilience shone through. The last time he was loose, he walked himself to the shelter and asked to come in. We can do better for Hector and must make it happen. We have been working on Hector's home for over a year now! It's up to us to give this guy a better ending! Hector is so sweet and deserving. He's selective with dog friends, but we are 100% willing to do meet & greets to assess compatibility and coach you through a happily ever after. Your role in Hector's journey is crucial, and we believe it's simply a matter of Hector's story reaching the right person at the right time!  Age: 8 years   Weight: 75 lbs Temperament: Gets along with all adults, kids and some dogs Training: House and crate-trained, knows some commands. Vetting: Neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm negative and on prevention.   For questions, please email rmaan95@gmail.com To ensure we're meeting both pet and adopters' needs, we ask potential adopters to complete an Adoption Application (www.bit.ly/DH-Adoption) for caretakers to review. Once your application is approved, we will bring the adoptable pet to your home for a preliminary visit. We are 100% donation-funded and our fees are equivalent to (or less than) the cost to fully vet a new dog yourself. November 6, 2024, 12:45 pm

Story
Rosie is 4 years old. We rescued her from Fulton county animal shelter. She came from a breeder. She is heartworm positive and has received her two injections this past July 24’. Her 6 month recheck will be in late December. She is also hypoallergenic. We adopted her because of her playful yet protective nature towards kids (as we are a family). Rosie has a heart shaped birth mark on her leg. She is truly a special girl. Loving, cuddly, protective, and such a gentle soul. She needs more proper training, vet care, and preventative treatment. We do not have the resources and financial support to continue treating Rosie. The ideal adopter would be someone who is willing to give her alllll the cuddles she needs, afford the vet care, take her for car rides (she loves those), and encourage her. Please consider adopting Rosie. She deserves a second chance.

Story
Rocco is about 1.5 yrs old. He was a court case/ removed from a neglectful home. He spent 4 months at the Dekalb County Animal Shelter. We adopted him with the understanding that he was dog and kid friendly. However we were not sure if he was good with cats. Unfortunately, after 4 months of trying to desensitize him from our 3 cats, including training sessions in home and on site thru K-9 pHD, we have realized that we are unable to remove the prey drive out of him. He is otherwise very sweet. He is also high energy. He would be a great fit for someone with another dog (although we have struggled finding him a playmate that can handle his level of enthusiasm), a yard and kids to play with.
