Story
From the folks that found him and brought him to Castoff: When we first stopped for Simon in the road he jumped up in the pickup and sat in my lap. My dog, Sully, was in the back seat and he, Simon, wanted to go in the back with him. Since I didn't know anything about him I held him on my lap until we got home. When we opened the doors both dogs ran to the fenced in area and played. Both dogs are intact but they played fine. After awhile Simon still wanted to play and was kind of bullying Sully. That's when Sully gave a growl and Simon responded with a growl. No bites, just words. When it was time to take his first walk inside the house, Simon was very hesitant and was as if he had never stepped foot inside a house before. When giving Simon a bath, he acted like he's never had one in his lifetime and it took awhile for me to get him in the tub with a struggle but once in he sat, scared, but sat. Sully has a toy hedgehog that Simon got ahold of and growled at Sully when he came near Simon with the toy hedgehog in his mouth. I took it away. He loves the soccer ball outside and threw it up in the air and played for quite awhile by himself. As far as feeding, he scoffs his food down like it's his last meal. He also growls when Sully is nearby if he is eating. I began to feed them in separate rooms for safety and once both dogs were done they played. Simon is starving for pets and attention and when he gets it, he will give Sully the side eye with a little grunt as if he were saying "it's my time for pets". Neither dog ever got into it but I also kept a very close eye all day long. Simon and Sully both slept on the floor next to my bed and slept all night without having to be let out. Every morning both dogs got a kabob (treat) and sat away from each other until they finished. The 1st 24 hours was very trying as Simon marked everything outside and inside. 2nd day was much better inside. I used a spray bottle with water to deter him and only had to spray the 1st time after that I just had to show him the bottle. Outside was another story. He marked everything. Hopefully after neutering that will get better but he was learning quickly by following Sully when he had to go out to potty. 3rd day no marking at all all in the house. Simon has never had any training and doesn't know how to sit. He also didn't know how to walk on a leash but picked up quickly (with some pulling but not bad) He would stop when he felt tension on the leash and loved to walk around the property. He would perk his ears when he heard a motorcycle pass as if it was a familiar sound. He also loves to ride in the car. We had both dogs ride together in the backseat and they were great together. Well they actually ignored each other. I think Simon would do great with a buddy more his size and with caution in the beginning with food and toys. He needs someone willing to give attention to training him. He is very food motivated and learns quickly. With patience and love he will make someone a great best friend.
