Story
Meet Charlie! He is in need of a new home! Charlie is a wonderful dog! He is a 5 year old part-Havenese , part-Maltese, so hypoallergenic with virtually no shedding. Charlie has never chewed anything but his toys, never made a mess in our house (he goes to the door when he needs to go out), and has never bitten, nipped or even growled at a person. He likes to play with other small dogs (he weighs 22 pounds), but does bark at large dogs. He hasnt been around cats but doesnt seem to notice them in the neighborhood on our walks. Charlie spends most of the day in the house, but likes to be outside several times a day, except when it’s raining. A fenced yard is important, because he will run away if given the chance, although he has come back after about half an hour. He LOVES to go for walks and does pretty well on a leash. He sleeps most of the day in a bed on the floor of our living room or on my lap. He has another bed on the floor of our bedroom where he sleeps through the night without getting up. He wants to be near his people. We dont have a crate so dont know how he’d do. He loves to ride in the car. I think he was probably roughly treated at some point, because he sometimes flinches at quick movements or loud noises. He had two seizures soon after we got him, each lasting about 5 mins. But our vet put him on 30mg of phenobarbitol a day, and he has not had a seizure since. The cost is about $10/month. He has had bouts of licking his feet (or blanket or bed). The vet thought it was an allergy so prescribed 1/4 of 5mg Prednisone tablet once a day ($5/month) with varied success. She said the licking could also be because he doesnt get 30 mins of exercise per day which my wife and I cant do and is the main reason for giving him up. He has gained 4 pounds since we got him, and we just cant exercise him enough to keep his weight down. He eats one can of wet dog food a day, half in morning and half in evening. Again, he’s a great dog and we will miss him but believe he would be better with someone who can exercise him more.Apply online https://www.russellrescuetn.com/application-for-adoption/ or email Russellrescuetn@gmail.com if already approved  Available dogs are met by appointment only and pre-approved adopters ONLY.Our dogs are currently in a foster homes which can answer your questions better than anyone else. We promise our fosters that we will qualify all potential adopters before we ask them to communicate with potential adopters. The application is the first step.
