Story
Hello, my name is Polo and I`m looking for a new home. My last family didn`t pay much attention to me, and they didn`t treat me very good either. I didn`t realize it until I got to this shelter and people started being nice to me and doing nice things for me. It was then that I understood what I had been missing all along. When I got here, my hair was long and filthy, and it was full of knots. It was also full of nasty fleas! My hair was so long that it touched the floor! The knots were pulling on my skin and made it so sore! I`ll admit - I was a little grumpy with the girls when they tried to help me that first day, but it hurt and I didn`t trust anyone. They gave me some medicine to make me sleepy, and when I woke up I didn`t have any of those nasty mats anymore and there were no more fleas either! At first I didn`t understand and it felt strange, but it was good to be rid of all that! The girls said they try not to shave dogs in the middle of this cold weather, but they had no choice with me. Take a look at my `before` pictures, and you can see how bad it was.Right now I may be a little crazy-looking, but my hair will grow back, and when it does, I`ll be a very handsome young ShihTzu! I`m on the bigger side - around eighteen pounds - so you probably won`t trip over me like those wee little ones.Because I still have a few trust issues, I`ll need to go into a home with no little children. It will take me some time to learn to trust my new people, so bear with me. I never had toys before I came here, and now I`m a bit protective of the ones I have. Pretty soon, I`ll be playing ball and squeaking stuffies like a pro!I also HATE leashes. I hate the kind that go over your head, the kind that attach to your collar, and even the kind that attach to your harness. In fact, if I even SEE a leash, I`ll try to attack it! For that reason, I`m going to need a fenced yard, because no one is putting a leash on me if I have anything to say about it. You can draw your own conclusions as to `why` I despise leashes so much.I`ve learned to enjoy the attention of the girls here at the shelter because I know they`re not going to hurt me. When I get a new family, I will learn to love them just as much. It`s not going to happen in a day, and it might not happen in a week, but eventually I will trust and love them, and I will spend the rest of my life at their side.A lot has happened to me in my two short years of life on this

Hello, my name is Marco and I`m looking for a new home. My last family didn`t pay much attention to me, and they didn`t treat me very good either. It was then that I understood what I had been missing all along. When I got here, my hair was long and filthy, and it was full of knots. It was also full of nasty fleas! Take a look at my `before` pictures, and you can see how bad it was.Right now I may be a little crazy-looking, but my hair will grow back, and when it does, I`ll be a very handsome ShihTzu! I`m a senior dog, and I have some `old man` issues that can be common for my breed. I have cataracts, so I don`t see very well. Once I get into my new home, I`ll learn my way around, and I should be fine. Just don`t move the furniture around!I don`t hear very well, either. Well, okay, I`m almost deaf. Since I can`t hear anyone coming, I get scared if someone comes up behind me and touches me. I sleep really well, though. If I can`t hear you trying to wake me, just blow on me gently.Since my past ten years weren`t so good, I still have some trust issues. It might take me a little while to warm up to new people, but if you`re kind and gentle with me, I`ll gladly be your best friend forever. I have a grade 5 out of 6 heart murmur, so I may need more vet care than a younger dog. I don`t know how much more time I have on this planet, but I`m hoping I can find a loving family who will take care of me for as long as I have left. It sounds like a lot to ask for someone to come in to adopt me, then be faced with all these issues. I`m not asking for you to spend a fortune on me, I`m just looking for a soft place to land and get comfy during my senior years. All I really need is a loving home, a gently hand, and a warm heart.
