Story
Sweet Potato (Tater) is a beautiful, hefty, 4 year old, green-eyed purebred Siberian with a cautious but very great affection for people. We are so happy to have her in our care because she came from a breeder who never gave her the time of day. She was never socialized with people or other cats and we can only imagine how bad the conditions she lived in were. Luckily, the breeder decided he no longer had a use for her and found MPR. We placed her and the other female cat she came in with in a loving foster home. She has decompressed over the last few weeks and it's been amazing to see her relaxing into just being a normal cat. She has the saddest eyes but she is learning she doesn't have to be sad anymore. She is quite courageous in exploring & a little more slowly learning that there is more than sleeping, eating, & sitting in isolation. She not only wants company but will cry out if she's awake & alone. She loves to be petted & rubbed & will sit for it if you approach her non threateningly. She loves rough surfaces to sit, rub, or scratch on! She is more slowly learning to play by means of a wand toy. With her foster sister from the same breeder, she is dominant & can be growly, grouchy but doesn't aggressively attack or fight. With my 15 year old cat, she can also be growly but is submissive, retreating out of her sight. And yet, they have occasionally rubbed noses or gotten close enough to make contact. Tater is very trainable & highly motivated by food, especially canned food. After such a rough start in life, we hope that Apple finds the best home ever, where she will be loved and get to be the princess kitty she was born to be! To be the first to meet Sweet Potato, apply to adopt. She will be attending our adoption event on Saturday from 12-4pm. All cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, FELV/FIV tested, dewormed and started on monthly flea preventative. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at pets@mpravl.org for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC. March 4, 2025, 12:45 am
