Story
Elmer is that old grizzled regular at the local bar who seemed hateful, but always had a quarter for a kid to win a prize from the claw machine. Life has made him quick to defend himself so you have to be willing to approach a relationship slowly, once he realizes you have lived life and faced challenges, you two will be trading war stories over a soft blanky in no time. An 8-pound chihuahua mix, we believe him to be approximately 8 years young with a zest for life. Even though he has been said to not like all men, the men he's met so far he's been okay with. He did better while taking pictures with Santa, than most children. Elmer gets nervous in new environments, we think a home with a battle buddy would be beneficial. Another doggo to help show him the ropes and understand he's safe. Elmer gets along fine with all dogs, big and small in his foster home. Although he is friendly, proper decompression time will be a key to his success. Elmer is reluctant to get in his crate, once he is in it, he will bark and grumble for a short time but will eventually settle down. When he is let out of his crate, he will jump up while walking to the door to go outside to do his business. Elmer shows his affection by covering you in kisses and being super snuggly with his cuddles. He's a dog that doesn't know how to hold his licker... so be prepared for lots of PDA (Elmer's teeth look really good for his age, very little tarter and "decent" breath!) He is definitely a dog that needs time to adjust to change, but once you are in you are totally in, and when he loves you, he loves you with all his heart. His adoption fee is $210. He is neutered, current on vaccinations, Heartworm negative, and he is microchipped. If you would like to meet this cute little guy and possibly add him to your family, please complete an application today. All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted.

Story
Meet Indy! Indy is an adorable six month old male chihuahua/rat terrier mix ready to find his forever home. Indy was born in April and is currently twelve pounds. He’s a happy little pup with a very long tail! Indy has got it all. He’s handsome, playful, and smart! Indy loves to cuddle and snuggle with his humans but also loves his playtime. He gets along well with other dogs and with children. He has not been tested around cats but his foster mom thinks he’d probably do okay with them as well. He may bark at strangers at first, but no one stays a stranger with Indy for long- he’ll be giving them love in minutes! He is in a destructive phase with his toys and is quickly and easily redirected back to his toys if he tries to play with something that’s off-limits. Indy is not aggressive. Indy travels well. Despite his age, he has done very well with potty training and very rarely has accidents in his foster home. His foster mom says Indy is basically the perfect dog other than the occasional snoring or farting! Indy has been vetted and has all of his age-appropriate vaccinations. He is neutered and microchipped. He is heartworm negative and takes monthly heartworm prevention. Indy’s adoption donation is $350. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. To submit an application go here……chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ An application must be submitted and approved before a meet-n-greet can be scheduled. Your current dogs/cats must be spayed or neutered unless a veterinarian has determined that your current pet(s) should not be fixed due to medical reasons. They must also be up-to-date on shots and on HW preventative. Reference checks and a home visit are required so midwest dogs can only be adopted in OH, KY, MI, WI, and IL.
