Newton is looking for a family that has had dog experience. If you do not have dogs now or have not owned a dog in  the last five years, and or if you have children, Newton may not be the right dog for your family. Newton would like to have a home with a yard where he can spend some time running around.    He is an amazingly affectionate dog. Newton is a mixed breed we presume to be Shih-Tzu / Poodle mix.  He is around 23 pounds neutered and up to date with all vaccinations.  Newton ended up in a local shelter completely matted and in pain.  He was shaved down, neutered and had imbecile hernia repair.  He was too stressed out in the shelter so they reached out for a rescue group to help him.  We got there as soon as we can. Newton is an active, happy, playful dog that gets along well with his new foster brothers.  He seems to be energetic and active and a bit mouthy so he would not do well with young children. Look back here for more information as we get to know him better. Newton is a very affectionate companion.  He seems to want to and will climb into your lap to be close to you.  He like to be in touch with his people either on the lap, next to and touching on the couch, and very close in bed at night with his warm body. WHEN AN APPLICATION TO ADOPT IS APPROVED WE BRING NEWTON TO THE HOME VISIT AND MEET AND GREET, AND IF ANOTHER ANIMAL A SNIFF TEST.  WE DO NOT PLACE DOGS ON THIS VISIT. WE RETURN IF THERE WILL BE AN ADOPTION WHEN EVERYONE IS PREPARED TO ADOPT.  WE ONLY TRAVEL UP TO A ONE HOUR DRIVE FROM ROCKVILLE MD TO PLACE ANIMALS.   Newton's personal webpage: https://hals.rescuegroups.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=20407942 Newton's videos on YouTube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6X5lkFtFSjMp6_fnKd7UOKB2JI797ftG&si=Kb-7CqQ6f_gyoNLE Newton's Facebook photos: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.7420757568005560&type=3 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Story
Name: Piper Sex: Female Estimated Age: 8 years old Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua Mix Weight: About 13 lbs Lives With: Dogs, cats, and people! Housebroken? Piper is potty trained and crate trained. Story: Piper was rescued from Puerto Rico. We are so happy to have her safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Piper is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with cats and other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Piper is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Piper will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Piper (who I have been calling Rosalita or Rosie, as a nod to her Puerto Rican heritage) is an adorable couch snuggler. She is very well-behaved in the home, and is content to lie on her bed and nap or watch her person when she's not with them on the couch. She is starting to get more confident with other people/dogs on our walks - she is happy to gently greet people and has even started getting a little excited or doing play bows with a few of the dogs we have met. I have been working on crate-training with her, and she is very content to go into her crate and take a nap when need be. Her favorite activities so far are going on walks to check out the smells in the neighborhood, and then getting cozy on the couch to watch some TV! The fee to adopt Piper is $350. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. Piper has been seen by a shelter vet and is being treated for Heartworm. Heartworm is a very treatable illness that is common in many shelter dogs coming from Puerto Rico. For more information on heartworm, visit our blog. If you think that Piper might be your perfect match, apply today!December 13, 2024, 12:16 pm
