Story
Mary came into rescue with another dog after their human mom passed away. After spending time together in a foster home, it became clear they are not as bonded to one another as we were first advised and are now in separate homes. Mary loves spending time with other dogs but also loves her people. Mary had been much-loved but because her owner was very ill, she didn’t get to meet many people. Luckily, her foster mom and dad are very experienced and Mary is meeting new people and exploring the back yard, playing with toys and even snuggling new human friends who came to visit! Mary is doing extremely well apart from one another, but they have other canine companions to keep them active & playful. Mary is a moderate energy girl, and enjoys having a companion dog that will play with her as well as an attentive person in her life. Mary really enjoys wrestling with her foster brother. It's a delight to observe. Mary can be a bit barky at strangers as they enter the house, but calm leadership helps guide her to where she needs to be emotionally. Mary was not house trained when she arrived, but we are working on that with her. Her ability to maintain that in her forever home will also depend on your ability to assist her with that. Consistency and routine are key. If you are interested in adopting Mary, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Mary's adoption fee is $350. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Mary will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter
