Meet Benji    Benji is a 4-year-old Shih Tzu mix weighing about 14 pounds who is looking for a calm, patient, and dog-savvy home where he can truly feel safe.   Benji appears to have had a rough start in life and is still learning that the world — and people — can be kind. He tends to feel more comfortable around men and can be sensitive to feet or sudden movements near him. Because of this, Benji will need an experienced owner who understands canine body language and is committed to continuing his training and confidence-building work.   Benji is currently recovering from a significant skin infection, and as he heals, we are still learning how much of his reactivity may have been related to discomfort or pain versus past experiences. What we do know is that with clear structure, gentle leadership, and consistency, Benji does best when he is not allowed to “run the show” and when expectations are calm and predictable.   Benji is not a beginner dog, but for the right person, he has the potential to be a loyal, rewarding companion. He will thrive in a home that values patience, boundaries, and positive reinforcement, and where his progress can continue at his pace.   If you’re an experienced dog owner who believes in second chances and understands that trust is earned, Benji may be the little guy you’ve been waiting for. ##2580514##

Story
Meet Paul! Paul is approximately 2 years old and is thought to be a possible Shih Tzu/Terrier type mix. Paul was transferred here from another shelter when they became full and needed help with space. From what we understand, he was originally from Mexico, but unfortunately we don't have much information for what his life has been like during his time here. What we can tell you is that this little squirt is a friendly guy with a unique "permanent wink" and he's ready for a wonderful new life! Paul appears to be potty trained and keeps his kennel clean, so we recommend utilizing a crate to help him transition to the new schedule and routine. He should do well with other pets and children as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised. He's active enough if you want a walking buddy or even someone to explore this area's beautiful trails, but also has a chill side that would enjoy basking in a dog bed in the sun. Because we don't know Paul's history, we are hoping to find him a family who is open to the unknowns - this could include training needs, personality quirks, fears/dislikes, anything that would essentially be learned as you get to know him. So far with us he's incredibly social and confident, so we are hoping he'll adjust just fine! If you are interested in meeting Paul, please follow the adoption application link below. We love the companionship of the other dogs, but may do better if we did not get adopted together to avoid the 'littermate syndrome'. We have not quite perfected our potty training, but are getting better. We are quite the joyful fellas!
