Story
Captain (affectionate known as Cappy) is a cute 7-1/2 year old male Shih Tzu who was surrendered to the HSOV on August 27, 2024 because his owner/mistress could no longer take care of Cappy due to her health issues.
Captain has a pale brown long smooth coat with a patch of white on his chest, a long fluffy tail, and an adorable Shih Tzu face with pale brown eyes, wiry whiskers on his short muzzle, and small floppy ears. Captain has a pronounced underbite which just adds to his charming appearance.
His owner told us that Cappy is not good with cats, and he is selective about which dogs he will accept into his circle of friends. Cappy does not like to share his food and is very protective about food/treats.
Cappy spent a week or so in a foster home after his arrival, and his foster mother also confirmed what his previous owner had indicated (that he doesn't get along with all dogs and that he tends to be protective of his food).
These photos of Cappy were taken on September 3, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Cadince Bibbee accompanied him for outdoor 'glamour pictures'. Cappy loves attention from his people friends (and also loved being carried in Cadince's arms after his photo session).
Captain weighs 15.2 lbs. He has already been neutered, so he could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application.
Captain went home with a foster family on September 7, 2024 who plans to adopt him if all goes well.
Captain was returned on September 14th and is currently on a 10-day bite quarantine after Cappy bit his foster parent on the hand/arm when picking an item up off the floor.
Update: Captain went home with a foster family on December 15, 2024 so that he could enjoy being in a real home environment instead of being in a small cage. Captain is still available for adoption and is looking for a fabulous forever home.
Captain was returned to HSOV on December 27, 2024 because his foster family was traveling over the holidays and was no longer available to keep him. His foster mother advised that Cappy would do best in a home with an "alpha person" who could control his 'attitude'.
Update: Captain went home with a foster family on January 4, 2025. Captain aka Cappy is still available for adoption.
Captain was returned to HSOV on January 13, 2025. His foster mother advised that Captain needs to be in an "only dog" home with no other dogs, children, or cats. And that an "alpha leader" is necessary to control his 'attitude'. Captain doesn't like to have his front feet or tail touched.
