Story
Mabel is settling back into her foster home after being returned by her family, who couldn’t take her when they moved out of state. While we may never fully understand Mabel’s past, it’s clear she’s endured some unkindness—she finds no comfort in human touch and prefers to keep her distance when it comes to physical affection. That said, Mabel still wants to be near you. She’ll quietly follow you around the house, never making a sound. She quickly picks up on routines and will even do a little happy dance at mealtime—especially if Cheerios, her favorite treat, are involved. Mabel is looking for a calm, patient home with one or two adults who will give her the time, space, and understanding she needs to feel safe. While she may never seek out cuddles or affection, we hold hope that, in the right home, she might learn to enjoy gentle connection. Mable just had a senior blood panel at Livewell Animal Hospital and everything looked great! Mable does well with both dogs and cats, travels quietly in a crate in the car, and reliably uses the yard for potty breaks with regular outings. Her hearing and vision aren’t what they used to be—common for her age—and she has arthritis that’s managed with a daily supplement to ease her gait and keep her comfortable. Mable is a 9 year old, 15 lb, Shih Tzu mix. If you’d like to learn more about Mabel, please reach out or apply to adopt her at www.rescuerowinc.org

Rescue Row is a 501(c)3 (non-profit) all volunteer dog rescue organization serving the DFW Metroplex. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs in shelters, dogs in abusive or neglectful situations, and dogs surrendered by their owners because of difficult circumstances. We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process, which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, microchipped, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. Dogs in the greatest need take priority. Finally, we strive to work with shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless dogs.
