Story
Bailey / Female Spayed / 5 Years / Shih Tzu / Dogs: Yes / Cats: Yes / Kids 13+ / Meet Bailey 💖 This sweet soul came to us in November from a puppy mill, a terrified little bundle of fur. Please read her bio carefully, as we are looking for an adoptive home that fits her specific needs. Only select applicants who are a good match will be contacted. Progress has been slow, but we’ve seen so much improvement. Initially she would barely ever leave her crate. Now, she’s comfortable being in the room with people, exploring her surroundings, and showing curiosity—though she’s still quite nervous. Bailey is shy but gentle, and she doesn’t make a peep. She’s incredibly sweet and good-natured. As she becomes more comfortable, she’s growing more curious about the world around her. She enjoys being bathed and groomed, and her fur is incredibly soft. She’s learning to accept gentle petting and seems to like being on the couch, though she hasn’t figured out how to get on or off it yet. Bailey is very friendly and curious about other animals. She would thrive with a confident dog who can show her how to be a dog and guide her. She’s also good with cats! Children, however, would be a bit too much for her, so we’re looking for a quiet, adult-only home where she can feel safe and secure. Though she shows interest in treats, she’s still learning to trust that she can actually take them. She seems to do best with focused, one-on-one attention and will need someone patient who is willing to let her progress at her own pace. Bailey deserves the most perfect home after all the trauma she’s experienced. We are hopeful she will find a home where she can continue to heal and grow. Please share her story and help us find her forever family. 🐾 Bailey is up to date on vaccines and is microchipped. She is spayed and has had a dental cleaning. She is being fostered in Erin. Story
YODA is currently being fostered in TEXAS. ***Please note that we would prefer to have YODA and SPARKLES adopted together*** Yoda is apx 8 -9 years old and 12 pounds, a shitzu/chihuahua mix. She was an owner surrender with her “sister” Sparkles. We are hoping they can be adopted together but we do want what is best for them and to find the girls an amazing home. Yoda gets a dental on the 23rd. She is a tripod. Yoda does have some cataracts starting in her eyes, some cloudiness and her teeth are awful so she will most likely lose quite a few toofers. Yoda is a bit more nervous than her sister Sparkles. She is good with cats and dogs but no small children please. Yoda is more shy and needs some time to warm up. She is not an aggressive dog just a bit scared and nervous. This is A LOT of change for her. Yoda is a sweet gentle older girl and she needs her forever home to be a place to rest her head, feel love and security. Name: Breed: Age: Gender: Weight: Good with cats or Small Animals: Good with dogs: Good with Young Children: Good with Older Children: Fenced Yard Required: Crate-Trained: House Trained: Name: Myrtle Breed: Shih Ztu Age:  8 years DOB: 9/25/2016 Gender: 8 years Weight: 13 lbs Good with cats: Unknown Good with dogs:  Yes Good with Children: Older children due to her previous life Fenced Yard Required: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes House Trained: Will use pee pads Location: London, Ontario   You must complete an adoption application to be considered for adopting Myrtle: https://www.animalert.ca/apply/dog-adoption   Since arriving in our care, Myrtle has taken some time to adjust, but she is now much more trusting. She will come when called and will show that she wants to be picked up to sit with you. Despite her eight years in captivity, Myrtle is a happy girl. However, she remains wary of new experiences.   Myrtle does okay in the car but she still may have accidents in the house when she feels anxious; typically, she will use a pee pad when needed. Myrtle would love the company of another dog, although she could also thrive with just the right person.   Myrtle is still getting used to walks and isn't quite sure if she enjoys them yet. She would do best with someone who is home often. She is likely good with cats, as she is gentle, but this has not been tested. Due to her nervousness, she would do better in a home with older children or no kids at all.   Many times, when we post about new intakes from breeder surrenders, we note that they require specific conditions to be adopted safely into a "forever" home. These dogs are often born into breeding situations and do not have experience going outside to the bathroom. They spend their lives in a confined space, seeing only walls, ceilings, and floors. As a result, they do not understand house training nor are they familiar with leashes and collars.   These dogs are typically unaware of everyday sounds, movements, or tasks. They need a secure yard to ensure they don’t bolt or slip out of their collars, leashes, or harnesses and get lost or injured. We do not make decisions for these animals on a whim; our choices are based on years of experience with dogs and careful observation of each individual animal’s preferences.   Myrtle has been vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and had dental cleaning.  Myrtle has also received monthly preventatives.   Her adoption fee will be $650.00 and will include her health records.  If you think you can provide the loving home she deserves please complete our on line adoption application at  https://www.animalert.ca/apply/dog-adoption   If you wish to learn more about Animalert, please visit our website at https://www.animalert.ca/   Due to the volume of emails, phone calls and messages Animalert receives, it is not always possible to respond to every application.
