Story
Meet Crumpet! Crumpet is an adorably cute 5.5 year old, female Shih Tzu who weighs 13 pounds. She is a puppy mill survivor and filled with love, trust and curiosity despite her traumatic start to life. She is more than ready to leave her past behind her and enjoy a new life and family! Crumpet is sweet, gentle and full of love! She is still settling into her foster home but is already starting to come out of her shell. She will need a patient, kind adopter who will continue to help her build confidence and learn that humans are safe. While she doesn’t mind being carried, she is also comfortable exploring her surroundings and being independent. She is currently fostered with a cat and does very well with interactions. Her favorite activities include napping in a cozy bed, tasting yummy treats and exploring her environment – especially the backyard! She enjoys following her foster parents around the house and finds comfort in their presence. She especially loves a good belly rub! Crumpet is not yet fully potty trained but making good progress. She is new to walking on a leash but is making strides towards short walks around the neighborhood. This brave little lady is ready to share her big heart with her forever family! Crumpet is fostered in Cincinnati, OH. Her adoption fee is $450.00. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. Story
Meet Oliver! Oliver or Ollie for short is a precious 2 year old, 13lb Shih Tzu with a gentle soul and a heart ready to love! He’s a mill survivor, which means his early life didn’t include many of the comforts and kindness many pups experience- but he is making up for lost time beautifully. Because of his background, Ollie can be a little shy at first. With patience and reassurance, he quickly shows how much he wants to connect. Once Oliver feels safe, his personality shines! One of his superpowers is he is a quick learner. He already understands routine and thrives when he knows what to expect next. He’s doing exceptionally well with a consistent schedule and gentle guidance. He adores his foster family, especially the guys! They have to stick together you know. When mom is relaxing though he seeks her warm lap for some R&R. He’s part of the pack with his foster Labradors running right along with them and coexists calmly with the cats. While he hasn’t had much direct exposure to children, he is quiet, non-reactive, observant, and would benefit from gradual, positive introduction as he continues to build confidence. Ollie is doing well on a leash and learning what walks are about. With more time and practice, he’s well on his way to becoming an expert little walking buddy. He is also learning to potty outside and is making steady progress, but he will need a home willing to continue supporting him in mastering this skill. Perhaps his greatest superpower is his love of snuggling. His foster mom has certified him as an expert spooner, Whether it’s curling up at night or settling in for a mid afternoon nap. He loves being close to people- on the couch, at your feet, or tucked in beside you; he brings a quiet, comforting presence to the home. Oliver will thrive with a kind, understanding family that appreciates his gentle nature and gives him time and love to continue blossoming. Oliver is currently being fostered in the Lebanon, OH area. His adoption fee is $450.00. Story
Meet Chloe Chloe is a 5-year old-Shih Tzu weighting in at 11 pounds of love with the cutest underbite. In her former life, Chloe was a puppy mill momma. She was rescued the beginning of the May and is learning how to be a dog. Chloe is fostered with a 5 year old Bichon and a cat. She coexists easily with both. She would do well with another dog to guide her through this transition but not mandatory. Chloe has become a cuddle bug and loves body rubs. She often falls asleep on foster mom’s lap during love time. Potty training and leash walking is still a work in progress since the grass is a totally new experience. But with time and a routine will learn this task. Chloe has come along way in a short time but still gets scared and can be very submissive. She will need a family who are willing help her on her journey to new life as a loved member of your family. Chloe will return nothing but live and cuddles. Chloe is fostered in the Cincinnati area. Her adoption fee is $450.00. Story
Aspen is a 2½-year-old, 10-pound Shih Tzu/Bichon mix with a playful personality, a smart little mind, and just the right mix of affection and independence. She came to rescue as an owner surrender after living in a condo, and she’s now looking for a home that better matches her active, inquisitive nature. Aspen is incredibly smart and picks up on routines very quickly. After only four days in foster care, she already knew exactly which house was hers at the end of walks. She loves fast-paced walks, enjoys playing with other dogs, and proudly carries around her favorite watermelon ball with bells inside. Aspen is very socially aware with other dogs and reads their cues extremely well. She knows how to appropriately initiate play, responds respectfully when another dog is not interested, and takes guidance from her foster siblings. She gets along extremely well with the other dogs in her foster home and would likely enjoy having a canine companion in her forever home. Around the house, Aspen is athletic, coordinated, and confident. She loves napping on the back of the couch where she can keep an eye on everything happening around her. She sleeps well in bed at night and even uses a little bench to safely jump on and off. She has excellent spatial awareness and does not recklessly jump or fall from furniture. Aspen is very affectionate without being clingy. She enjoys being close to her people but also settles nicely on her own. She does have some anxiety when left alone and may bark when her foster mom first returns home, but she calms down within 5–10 minutes. Because Aspen can bark when left alone, she is not a good fit for apartment or condo living, or any home where shared walls and close neighbors could create issues. Her ideal home would include a fenced yard or secure deck/patio area where she can safely explore, observe the world, and get mental stimulation throughout the day. Aspen is a bright, engaging little dog with lots of personality, and she’s ready for a home that will appreciate both her playful energy and her loving heart. Her previous owner said she is house trained. She does her business on walks, but being in a new home has set her back on this. Her new adopter will need to help her get acclimated to her new surroundings. Aspen is being fostered in Cincinnati, OH. Her adoption fee is $450.00.
