Story
Aspen is a 2½-year-old, 10-pound Shih Tzu/Bichon mix with a playful personality, a smart little mind, and just the right mix of affection and independence. She came to rescue as an owner surrender after living in a condo, and she’s now looking for a home that better matches her active, inquisitive nature.
Aspen is incredibly smart and picks up on routines very quickly. After only four days in foster care, she already knew exactly which house was hers at the end of walks. She loves fast-paced walks, enjoys playing with other dogs, and proudly carries around her favorite watermelon ball with bells inside.
Aspen is very socially aware with other dogs and reads their cues extremely well. She knows how to appropriately initiate play, responds respectfully when another dog is not interested, and takes guidance from her foster siblings. She gets along extremely well with the other dogs in her foster home and would likely enjoy having a canine companion in her forever home.
Around the house, Aspen is athletic, coordinated, and confident. She loves napping on the back of the couch where she can keep an eye on everything happening around her. She sleeps well in bed at night and even uses a little bench to safely jump on and off. She has excellent spatial awareness and does not recklessly jump or fall from furniture.
Aspen is very affectionate without being clingy. She enjoys being close to her people but also settles nicely on her own. She does have some anxiety when left alone and may bark when her foster mom first returns home, but she calms down within 5–10 minutes.
Because Aspen can bark when left alone, she is not a good fit for apartment or condo living, or any home where shared walls and close neighbors could create issues. Her ideal home would include a fenced yard or secure deck/patio area where she can safely explore, observe the world, and get mental stimulation throughout the day.
Aspen is a bright, engaging little dog with lots of personality, and she’s ready for a home that will appreciate both her playful energy and her loving heart.
Her previous owner said she is house trained. She does her business on walks, but being in a new home has set her back on this. Her new adopter will need to help her get acclimated to her new surroundings.
Aspen is being fostered in Cincinnati, OH. Her adoption fee is $450.00.
To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt
All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.
For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.
We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
