Meet Peter Max 🐾Peter Max is a sweet, nine-year-old Yorkie mix with a gentle soul and easygoing charm. He’s a very quiet, well-mannered boy who is fully house-broken and happiest just being near his people.Peter Max prefers the cozy life—he doesn’t care for cold weather and has a funny little habit of choosing the bathroom as his favorite nap spot. He’s a bit hard of hearing, which only adds to his laid-back, unbothered personality. He gets along well with other dogs and has low activity needs, making him a perfect companion for a calm home. If you’re looking for a mellow, loving buddy who’s content with simple comforts, Peter Max is truly just a good old boy waiting for his forever home. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Ben — A Resilient Little Lovebug Looking for His Forever Lap Ben is a Shih Tzu who was found as a stray in heartbreaking condition — completely blind, severely underweight, and heartworm positive. The vet estimates he’s around 10 years old… but honestly, that’s anyone’s guess (we like to joke he must have been a weatherman in his past life ). He could be older, he could be younger — what we do know is that Ben acts much younger than his age! Despite being blind, Ben is incredibly smart and adaptable. His sense of smell and hearing are amazing, and he navigates his world with confidence. He plays with the other dogs in his foster home and loves being part of the action. If he hears you walk by, he immediately rolls over and demands belly rubs — it’s basically his signature move. &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 Ben is the ultimate companion dog. He wants to be near his person, on their lap, getting face rubs, belly rubs, and all the love. Because of this, he needs a home where someone is home most of the day — ideally someone who works from home or is retired. Home preferences: Best as an only dog or in a home with female dogs only Currently working on marking behavior Needs a calm, loving home that understands blind dogs and senior care No transporting — adopter must be local or come to him Medical: Currently undergoing heartworm treatment Will complete treatment and be neutered in early February Will be available for adoption at the end of February Location: Durham, NC Adoption Fee: $300 Transportation: We do not transport dogs Ben has been through so much, yet he is still joyful, affectionate, playful, and full of love to give. He doesn’t let blindness define him — he lives with confidence, curiosity, and a whole lot of heart. If you’re looking for a devoted lap dog who will adore you endlessly, Ben might just be your perfect match. Story
(DOB 01/15/2017) Maggie, "Little Ms. Personality, is a pint-sized sweetheart with a big heart and an even bigger smile. This super cute girl hasn’t met a person or pup she doesn’t adore; she greets everyone with a wagging tail and happy energy. She’s playful, gentle, and genuinely sweet, making her a joy to have around. Maggie does wonderfully with other dogs, kids, and people. While she’s social, she’d also be perfectly content as your one-and-only. (Cats are unknown at this time.) Maggie is a well-mannered little lady at home. She’s house trained, crate trained, and sleeps in her crate without any fuss. She walks nicely on leash, loves car rides, and enjoys daily strolls where she can meet neighbors and their dogs; big, small, male, female…she’s a fan of them all. When her foster steps out, Maggie relaxes happily in a small four-panel corral, showing off her independent and easy-going side. Maggie enjoys toys, shares nicely, loves a bit of tug-of-war, and is happiest when she’s spending time with her people; doing just about anything whether that’s walking together, playing, or soaking up pets and attention. Her ideal forever home would be with a retired or work-from-home woman, as Maggie does seem to gravitate toward female companionship and loves being near her person. An apartment would be just fine for her as long as she gets regular walks, potty breaks, and some playtime. If there’s a yard, fencing should be solid with no large gaps. Little tip - Maggie should always be supervised outside—she’s a master at finding poop. She’ll also need regular grooming, and lucky for you, Maggie is a total rockstar at her “spa sessions.” She gets fawned over everywhere she goes, and everyone agrees: “She is so awesome!” If you’re looking for a happy, loving companion with loads of charm and just the right amount of sass, Maggie may be your perfect match. As part of Maggie’s $300 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet girl, you can email: Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. If you wish to adopt Maggie, you can fill in an online application for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website: www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2642485##

**AVAILABLE ON-SITE ONLY ON FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS ** Total Adoption Fee: $895 This includes our standard adoption fee of $395 plus an additional required $500 tax-deductible donation. Why the additional donation? Dogs with highly desirable traits—such as low-shedding coats and popular breeds—help us fund lifesaving care for dogs who need it most, including nursing moms, imaging and surgeries for dogs with traumatic injuries, and medications for those requiring lifesaving heartworm treatments. Your generosity makes this possible! Meet Perse...... While Perse is undeniably adorable (both before and after his trip to the groomer), he sports a healthy dose of attitude and expects to be treated like the star of the show. To live his best life, Perse must be the only dog in an adult-only home. He has no desire to share his treats, his toys or your lap with other dogs. Perse has excellent house manners when kept on a consistent schedule and spends his downtime happily curled up in a comfy bed or searching the house for a warm, cozy blanket. Don't let his selective nature fool you—this boy is full of life and loves to stay active. He is always up for a walk and truly enjoys chasing balls and playing with his toys. Once you are in his inner circle, you’ll have a fiercely loyal, snuggly companion who wants nothing more than to be right by your side. Perse is ready to be your one and only.
