Howdy folks, I’m a handsome little male Shih Tzu named Hoover. I’m about 3 years old, 17 lbs and I was dropped off at the San Antonio “kill” shelter when my owner could no longer care for me. Thankfully, 4 Little Paws Rescue quickly picked me up so I wouldn't be euthanized but I was dirty, matted, and desperate for a dental, so I was feeling pretty cranky when I first met my foster mom. Fast forward a month and I’ve been groomed, ears cleaned, dental cleaning done, and some time to chill out and make friends with my foster mom and the other dogs and cats living with me. I’m like a new man, happy and playful, in love with some doggy toys, but I don't care for being picked up and I’m scared of cats. I should tell you that I don't answer to the name Hoover. I used to be named Honey and I don't answer to that either, but when my foster mom says “Come here baby” I run right over! I am energetic and playful, wonderful on a leash while we go for a walk, and I adore playing fetch. Tell me to go get my ball and I will so you can throw it over and over. I only bark to alert you and will howl to get your attention, I’m already housebroken and know how to use a doggy door. I get along with other dogs but I’m not playful with them. I’m more of a people dog, loyal and loving, and ready to find a family of my own. I hear the Eastern Seaboard is the place to be, so inquire about me today and bring me home! * 4 Little Paws is based in CT. We adopt in many different states along the East Coast. Our veterinary partner estimates that Gideon is 10 years old at the time of intake in February 2022. Gideon is good with people who respect his space and he's good with other dogs, but cats--not so much! He is an adorable, albeit grumpy, senior boy who lives life on his own terms--he will let you know when you are violating his person or his space. He doesn't like cats and he doesn't like to be picked up; he likes to have his back rubbed, but if you hit the wrong spot, watch out! Gideon will do best in a home with snarky dog experience, where he can be independent, and if there are children they should be older and capable of respecting Gideon and his space. This guy's rough life has shaped him, and he deserves to spend the rest of his years in a loving, forever home with his special person who understands him and lets Gideon be Gideon.
