Story
Meet Ella, a 5 year old (dob: 10/4/19) Shih Tzu, who is a recent breeder release from Pennsylvania. She currently weighs about 12 pounds and has been fully vetted (spay, dental, vaccinations and microchipped) and is looking for her forever home. Ella would do best in a home with a secure fenced in yard and hopefully at least 1 other dog companion. Ella loves exploring outside and will let you know if anyone or anything breaches the perimeter! Are you the forever this little girl is looking for? Apply to adopt Ella at https://www.dutchcountryanimalrescue.org/adopt.html We currently adopt in the states of PA*, NJ, NY**, DE, and some areas of MD. We cannot accept applications from other states at this time. *Eastern half **Excluding NYC, Bronx, Long Island

Story
Thank You DelleBovi Family! Flynn was born about October 4, 2014 and weighs about 22 lbs.  He is as cute as they come and was released from his puppy making days in a puppy mill in West Virginia.  The 'millers' made a call to the humane society and said they no longer needed the services of 29 dogs and would they take them.  The shelter is a kill shelter due to space and could not handle so many dogs and so they asked if we would take them.  How could we not!  So, we squeezed and adjusted and were able to take them all.  Sadly, Flynn has failed two adoptions as after a decent length of time they still could not touch him nor would he stay in the same room as them.  He is wonderful with the other dogs here and is now considered a Joyful Rescues Sanctuary pet.  He can seldom be touched and if he is it is not for long and when we must 'catch' him to be groomed we must use a towel to protect our hands because he will bite.  He does happily live inside the house with the humans who live and work here as long as they are not forcing themselves on him, which we do not unless absolutely necessary such as hair trimming.  It is felt Flynn is living his best life right where he is and is a very happy boy.  From Dr. Rasnake: There is mild pegmentary keratitis which is likely from hair rubbing on the surface of the eye.  This condition may be the result of improper hygiene/grooming.  His future family will need to be diligent to keep hair cut short around his eyes so this does not worsen.  He still can see, but there is some cloudiness.  Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility.   Can't Adopt Me?  SPONSOR ME Look for the Link 'Special Instructions to Seller' if you want to note a particular pet Before you seek to adopt a pet from Joyful Rescues, please read our Pet Adoption page http://www.joyfulrescues.org/pet_adoption.html. Story
Odie was born around August 23, 2013 and weighs about 8 pounds. Odie and his brother Chief are with us because his human passed away unexpectedly at a very young age.  We spoke with Chief and Odie's foster mom recently, and after some careful consideration, we've decided that they need to be adopted together. While we don't typically do this, we feel strongly that it's in the best interest of both dogs. They have a very strong bond, and separating them at this stage could be detrimental to their well-being. We understand this may present a unique adoption situation, but we're hopeful that these two deserving brothers will find the perfect home. Odie does well with all the other dogs here, and we have been told he is fine with cats and children.  Odie rides well in the car and walks nicely on a leash.    Chief will also stick with you when you are outside doing chores.   You will have some potty training work to do but he has the basics down he just needs routine.  Odie received a much-needed dental on arrival and he has some age-related arthritis that would benefit from a Rimadyl type product from your vet.  He's rather active for a 12-year-old pup and gets around wonderfully!    Chief & Odie would like their next home to be their last.  A home that will cherish these boys for however long they have left and never let them feel heartbreak again.   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $350.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption. Story
Hollie was born about February 16, 2005....yes 2005! and weighs about 8 pounds.    Another email begging for help from an overcrowded Southern shelter.  This time it's a tiny dog that has lived a horrible life for 19 years and then gets dumped at the shelter with her eyes matted shut. The only vet care Hollie had was in 2014 when she was taken to a vet with a 'Fetal membrane hanging from the vagina'  The Southern shelter does the very best they can and got her cleaned up and worked hard to get her out.  We know if we don't step up she will be euthanized never knowing love, happiness, and comfort.  So we agree to take her in.  Hollie has been in foster for a few weeks and is enjoying the feeling of safety and comfort.  She makes little gremlin noises when she feels like being held.  At first, she was only comfortable being held for a few minutes at a time but now she settles in her favorite human's lap for however long that human is sitting. Hollie's sight is limited to shadows and she can not hear.  Hollie can walk or should we say sashay? Hollies left front leg works at odd angles and we have to assume it was broken at one point in her life and healed as is. Her eyes require several drops a day but they no longer cause her pain.  So that's the story of Hollie.  She will stay in her foster home as a hospice case but at least we can sleep easier knowing this almost 20-year-old dog will have known peace and love before she crosses the bridge.   The Adoption Fee for this dog is N/A Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability.
