Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.December 17, 2024, 5:29 am

8/2/24 Yes, she's still here! Someone needs to snatch up this little girl! 10/23/24 We can't believe Roberta is still here. Someone, PLEASE give her a home of her own! Roberta is a 9 year old gold and white Shih Tzu weighing about 11 pounds. She came to us a year ago, and she likes to think she's in charge. This girlie loves to be out in the back fenced yard, monitoring the other dogs and the neighborhood. She likes to find a sunny spot to catch some sun, then moves to a cool spot to enjoy the breeze. She's still working on her house training and relaxing around people. Roberta gets along with the other dogs here and sleeps quietly in her crate at night. She needs her own family that can help her learn all the secrets of being a family member in a home. To inquire about Roberta, please complete an application FIRST, at www.bongosbuddiesrescue.com

Story
Walter is a 10-year-old Shih Tzu rescued through the Humane Society. Walter only has his canine teeth left, so he will need canned food for the remainder of his life; but he just had a dental in June, so those remaining teeth are clean and polished! Walter is showing some signs of aging, but he is in very good shape. He tolerates some dogs but would prefer to be the only male, and he would be happiest if he was the star of the show. His favorite thing is going on a treasure hunt to find all of the toys. He brings them back to his bed and makes a huge pile of his bounty. Then he sits on his throne to survey all that he has accomplished. Walter appears to like men more than women. He loves to curl up and snuggle in the recliner on his foster dad's lap, but he refuses to sit long-term with his foster mom. She's trying not to take it personally, but he does follow her around the house. Walter has backpack all packed, and he's ready to travel. He would love to head out and see everything there is to see in the world! He loves looking out the window! Walter was recently groomed and will require regular grooming with his new adopters. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and heartworm-negative. Want to learn more about Walter? Fill out an application at istodaymydayrescue.org, and one of our team members will reach out to you. Walter's adoption fee as a senior dog is $200.

Story
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Location: Decatur, IL Requirements: Secure PHYSICAL fenced yard Pearl is a spunky and sassy Shih Tzu that likes to use her voice! She is a previous breeder dog and was shy at first but has warmed up in her foster home and has the Shih Tzu attitude the breed is loved for! Pearl likes to play, but she can be a little rough in her play. She has found a great playmate with the 16 lb Shihtzu mix in the foster home. The two of them run and jump on each other, tackle and wrestle until they are tired. She loves to chew and enjoys her weekly raw meaty bone given in her kennel. Pearl was very picky with her food when she came into rescue and so foster mom tried her on raw (which is what her dogs eat) and she eats it well. Foster mom is mixing raw with kibble and she does well with it. Pearl has only been around a toddler and she was terrified to the point of pooping herself. It is not recommended that small children live in the home with Pearl. She will require a secure physical fenced yard. Pearl's adoption is $375. She is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Visit leiashope.org for next steps! PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application. We do adopt out of the area. However, we do not ship or provide transportation. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet. Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!

Shih Tzu DOB 12/18/19 12lbs Neutered/Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Current on flea/heartworm prevention Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY, it will answer most of your questions. If you are a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Only complete & qualified applications will be considered/contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive for a meet and greet. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications can be found here on our website. Hershey was a pretty shy boy when he first arrived. He was scared & not sure what the future was going to be. Well, he arrived at his foster home & was greeted by some furry friends who assured him it was going to be fabulous from here on out. He spent the first few weeks just watching. Watching the humans, watching the other dogs, & watching the household activities. Hershey has come a long way and now follows his foster mom everywhere. He will jump up on the recliner so his foster mom will hold him. He lays in the kitchen next to her feet. He loves his foster mom. He is still unsure of his foster dad but is getting better. In his new home, everyone will need to understand Hershey will need time to adjust so you will need patience. Hershey is still not accepting of the harness and leash so he will need a secure physically fenced yard. In time, his family can work on leash training, but it isn’t going to happen any time soon. He is a very good boy that doesn’t need to be crated & is always on his best behavior when his foster family is gone. He is not completely potty trained but taken out often, he doesn't have accidents. Hershey needs a low-key family that will allow him to bloom. He really needs another dog of similar size in the home already. He will lay and snuggle with his foster siblings around the home during the day and he cuddles with his 4 legged siblings on a comfy bed in his human fosters bedroom. Please apply if you have a nice slow-paced home for Hershey to join.

He particularly enjoys his furry friends and is much more confident when they are around. We will seek to find a home where he will have an appropriate canine friend. Buddy is still not accepting of the harness and leash so he will need a secure physically fenced yard. In time, his family can work on leash training, but it isn’t going to happen any time soon. When he arrives at his new home, we will immediately need a secure safe space to continue his housetraining & potty schedule, that is why a fence is a must. He is a very good boy that doesn’t need to be crated & is always on his best behavior when his foster family is gone. He is not completely potty trained but taken out often, he doesn't have accidents. He doesn't know how to signal to go out, but he will go out & back in easily. He likes to have a partner when he goes outside. One of Buddy's favorite things is sleeping with the whole family in the big bed at night. He really wants to be a part of the family, to be included & loved. A low-key patient home will be the perfect place for him to bloom. Please apply if you have a nice loving home for Buddy to join.
