READY TO LEAVE ON OR AFTER November 29th, 2024 (once they’ve received 2nd vaccination and are neutered)!  Taking applications NOW! Note:  Only those with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK:    http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application RESERVING A PUPPY:    If your application is approved and you are selected, you will be contacted by phone.   Specific puppies are only reserved with a $100 deposit once the approved adopter is notified.   Rock, Paper and Scissors (males) Intake date:   11/6/2024 Breed:  Shih Tzu/ Yorkie mixes DOB 8/16/2024 Intake weights:  all were just over 5 pounds Current weights (as of 11/13/2024):  all just over 6 pounds Size potential:  15 pounds give or take (this is an estimate!)   Adoption fee and vetting:  $400; includes neuter, age-appropriate vaccinations (at least two, plus Bordetella); rabies, fecal, deworming and treated for coccidia, flea prevention, microchipped Benefactor Dog:  When we have a popular dog, we dub them a “Benefactor Dog”.  A Benefactor Dog will have an above average adoption fee.  In other words, for OTHER dogs where the adoption fee is minimal or waived due to age, health or some other reason (although we’ve likely spent hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars) a Benefactor dog will help us somewhat make up the shortfall.  If this dog has an above-average adoption fee, she/he is a Benefactor Dog.   Good with other dogs:  yes Cats:  yes Health issues:  none found Biography:   Rock, Paper and Scissors were owner-surrenders due to an oops litter.  The owners did tell us that the momma will be spayed now.  This litter is precious!  They are fun, fun, fun!  They are very social and want to be with people!  We’ve kept them quarantined in the Mutternity Ward the entire time they’ve been with us since there was no vaccination history.  Rock is a little more timid at first, Paper is very social and sweet and Scissors has the most personality.  We are taking applications now but they can’t leave until on or after November 29th.  They are scheduled to be neutered on November 26/27 since they do have their little nuggets.  We request that when applying to put all three names.  Approved and selected applicants will get a phone call and be able, at that time, to pick the puppy (depending on which ones aren’t already reserved).  A non-refundable $100 deposit will be required.  Please read the important information below regarding puppies!  If you’re interested in one of these little toots, we welcome your application.     VACCINATIONS and PROTECTING YOUR PUPPY! Your puppy has NOT been fully vaccinated!  While with us, your puppy has been completely protected the entire time.  Your puppy has not been outside of their protective puppy pen except to clean.  IF your puppy got two (or more) rounds of vaccinations before leaving, then your puppy was released to be with the other non-quarantined dogs.  It’s important to keep your puppy away from high-traffic stores or areas where there is a potential that there are unvaccinated dogs or areas where you know there were puppies that have had or have parvo.   Parvo is a silent killer and is everywhere... so just like you would a newborn human baby... protect your puppy.   Your puppy will require MORE vaccinations which will be discussed at the time of adoption.  YOU MUST FOLLOW-UP WITH YOUR VET TO GET YOUR PUPPY ON A SCHEDULE!  Parvo is everywhere and IT IS A KILLER OF PUPPIES!  You WILL be required to SIGN a contract that you agree to continue the puppy vaccinations until your puppy has been fully inoculated.  Be aware… we will follow-up! WHY SO MANY VACCINATIONS?  Most people don’t understand why a puppy needs multiple puppy vaccinations so some people don’t go beyond the first set.  This is a HUGE MISTAKE.  We’ll explain:  In the beginning, while nursing, the puppy receives ample immunity from their mother.  Once weaned, they are susceptible to dangerous viruses such as parvo, the puppy killer, and distemper… among other things.  At 6 weeks they should receive their first round of puppy vaccinations.  Why isn’t this enough?  Because you don’t know when the mother’s immunity is no longer effective and if they receive it while still with the mother’s immunity, it doesn’t do any good.  This is WHY they need to continue with boosters.  At some point one or more of those vaccinations will become their immunity.  Don’t risk your puppy’s life!  While some vets only do three sets, we recommend four sets.  If you’ve ever had a puppy die of parvo… it is something you will never ever forget.   (Keep in mind we are not veterinarians and cannot give advice, so don’t take our word for it… talk to your licensed veterinarian.)   PUPPIES! Keep in mind, puppies teeth just like human babies and have little sharp toenails. They will also have behaviors that require training. Puppies will cry, chew, bite, mouth, nip, bark, destroy, dig, scratch, etc. The puppy phase lasts about 18 months (sometimes longer), so be sure you ARE READY for the commitment! Don't even think about applying if you have any doubts about raising a puppy... and don't expect children to take care of the puppy... because they won't! This needs to be an adult decision and an adult commitment.   POTTY TRAINING:  A puppy can only hold their bladder for a short period of time based upon their age.  If the puppy is 2 months old, they can hold their bladder for 2 hours;  3 months/3 hours;  4 months/ 4 hours, etc., up to 6 months of age.   At about 6 months of age, this time frame stables out.  Puppies are a 10-15 year commitment (sometimes longer).  Please be sure you are prepared for the life of the puppy!  In conclusion, if your puppy is in a responsible home that provides daily structure, training and socialization with people and other pets, your puppy will grow to be a well-adjusted and wonderful part of your family for many years to come.   COMMITMENT:   Puppies are a 10-15 year commitment (sometimes longer).  Please be sure you are prepared for the life of the puppy!  In conclusion, if your puppy is in a responsible home that provides daily structure, training and socialization with people and other pets, your puppy will grow to be a well-adjusted and wonderful part of your family for many years to come.     **IMPORTANT NOTES** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved.  We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule. *All of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever!  We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family!   We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing.  There is no exception to this rule!   *NO SMALL CHILDREN!!  As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended.   Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children.  KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL!  Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.  *HOUSETRAINING:  We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained.   While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night.  Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home.  Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.  *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome.  Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate. *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty.  That’s our guarantee.   Other notes:  This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La.  We are 501c3 non-profit organization.  Our mission is to rescue primarily small-breed dogs and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes.    DOG APPLICATION LINK:   http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal.  We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application.  The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered.  We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply. Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption NOR does it guarantee the adoption. CONTACT:  Our adoptable pets are updated regularly, but if you want to check the availability of a pet... Story
Zoey (nickname ZoZo) is a female black with white shih tzu or similar mix. She is 5.5 months old (as of 11/11/24) and she weighs 11 pounds. Zoey is vaccinated including rabies. She was recently spayed and had two cherry eyes repaired (gland of inner eye protruding). Zoey is ready for adoption. ZoZo is an adorable, cuddly little girl. She and her sister Elise came to us from a local shelter. They had worms and hair loss but have responded well to treatment. ZoZo is a little shy but social and friendly. She has a sweet happy nature and loves to do zoomies. Zoey plays with other dogs and with toys. She likes chew toys. Zoey does not understand her crate as somewhere she shouldn’t potty, so traditional potty training hasn’t worked. She is currently using a mix of potty pad and outdoors for potty. A person home with her most of the time could be the key to polishing up her training. ZoZo might do well in a home with a doggie door always available, or in a setting where she can get frequent short leash walks. ZoZo would be happy as an only dog if her person is mostly home or takes her along. Adoption fee is $350. Must apply: Application for adoption is located at http://fs19.formsite.com/JeffTarpleyRescue/application/index.html Jeff Tarpley Rescue 903-490-2959 We require all potential adopters to submit an application. We only accept applications for a specific dog you are interested in adopting. We do not keep waiting lists or files of general applications for dogs we might get later. The online application can be found at this location: http://fs19.formsite.com/JeffTarpleyRescue/application/index.html A completed adoption application and, upon approval, an adoption contract is required. Jeff Tarpley Rescue welcomes applications from homeowners, renters, and condo or apartment dwellers. At a minimum, a phone interview will be conducted and a vet reference checked before the applicant may meet their preferred pet. We adopt primarily in the 4 states of the ArkLaTexOma. Applicants willing to travel to Texarkana will also be considered with additional requirements to qualify as approved.
