Story
Meet Alex and Abbey – A Bonded Pair Looking for Love Alex and Abbey are an inseparable duo searching for their forever home! Abbey is a small mixed breed, possibly with some Shih Tzu or Poodle in the mix. This middle-aged lady may take about 30 minutes to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you, she’s all about high fives, kisses, and endless cuddles. Abbey is highly motivated by love and is always eager to please. She’s perfectly content whether she’s playing outside, perched on the back of a couch like a cat, or snuggling in bed all day long. Adaptable and quick to learn new routines, Abbey will thrive in a home with older kids due to her petite size. Abbey gets along well with dogs, cats, and people of all ages. She’s fearless in her role as your “almost toothless” protector, although she may bark to let you know she’s on duty. With patience and extra love, Abbey will blossom into your most devoted companion, her button eyes melting your heart every time you look her way. She has so much life and love to share! Alex, a petite Chihuahua mix, may be small, but he’s got big dog energy! If you love the spunky, spirited personality of Chihuahuas, Alex will keep you laughing every day. Like Abbey, he’s middle-aged and takes some time to decompress in a new environment. Once he’s comfortable, he’s a social butterfly who thrives on affection and loves to zip around the yard, play with dogs and cats, and, of course, enjoy his treats. Alex is mostly potty trained and learns routines quickly. He adores snuggling in bed and is fiercely loyal, despite only having two teeth left after a recent dental. Watching Alex grow more confident and affectionate every day is one of the most rewarding things, and he deserves a home where he can continue to flourish. Both Alex and Abbey are fully vetted, and they recently had dental work to ensure their mouths are in tip-top shape. If you’re ready to open your heart to this special pair, Alex and Abbey are waiting to fill your home with love and laughter! Their adoption fee is $650 cash or check and $660 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes s age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

Story
Despite his appearance, Cappy is not a teddy bear. He is actually a 6 year old Shih Tzu! He weighs 12.5 pounds and is completely unbothered by his missing eye! He's just a happy, playful guy. He likes other dogs and we think he would be fine with kids. He warms up very fast to new people! He's also a smart little guy, learning basic commands, responding to his name, and walking on a leash well already! He's working on things like using stairs, pottying outside (so far, so good!), and spending time in his pen along. Cappy loves his toys, especially the ones that squeak back at home. He also doles out kisses freely and can't get enough pets, attention, and love. He's such an adaptable fella, we think he'll do well in just about any home. All he asks is that he gets lots of cuddles and affection! He likes to be touching his human at all times, and if you leave the room, he will cock his head to the side, watching your every move. Don't worry, if you go too far, he will quickly follow you! Cappy will make a great sidekick and loving companion to a very lucky adopter. Don't delay if he seems like the pup for you, submit an application! Cappy's adoption fee is $600

Story
Sweet Potato is a 7 year old, 12 pound, Shih Tzu with a sweet and curious demeanor! She does great with the other dogs in her foster home and would probably do just fine with cats, too. She hasn't met any children yet and we suspect she'd be shy at first meeting. She's still getting used to her new surroundings and decompressing in her foster home but, so far, she's very happy to spend time in her pen which is her safe space. She uses potty pads when needed in her pen, but she's also doing great with potty training and getting used to the routine! Sweet Potato is quiet and observant, watching what her foster family does. She enjoys exploring the house and yard and though she's shy with people at first, she takes comfort in other dogs. She would love to have a dog buddy to show her the ropes in her forever home! She is hoping her adopter will also be patient as she warms up, and help her get used to thinks like walking on a leash. Her big eyes and swaying tail will draw you in, and her silly sploots will have you hooked! If you'd like to give Sweet Potato the good life for the rest of her days, be sure to let us know by submitting an application! Sweet Potato's adoption fee is $600
