Story
Applications at leiashope.org Apple Crisp is located in Decatur, IL. She is believed to be a Teddybear (Shih Tzu/Bichon) and was born in our care after her mom arrived pregnant. Apple Crisp has quickly earned her reputation as the diva of the litter. She is tiny, adorable, and absolutely convinced she deserves her own personal staff. If something feels even slightly beneath her, she will let you know—sometimes loudly. Noise cancelling headphones might be a wise investment. Despite her flair for dramatics, Apple Crisp is incredibly sweet and loves her people. She would do best in a home that understands her personality and gently encourages her to figure things out instead of rescuing her from every situation. When given space and support, her confidence grows, and she shines. She enjoys cuddling, playing with her siblings, and supervising from a comfy lap when possible. She is currently going through the Puppy Culture program, which focuses on confidence building, problem solving, early socialization, and positive communication. Apple Crisp enjoys her one-on-one learning time and will go home with the next-stage Puppy Culture online course (a $100 value) to help her new family continue her training and development. Apple Crisp was weaned onto a balanced raw diet to support her gut biome and overall health. She will go home with a few days of food for transition. While she does not have to stay on raw, it is preferred for optimal health. Like all Teddybears, she will require frequent brushing and routine grooming every six weeks to keep her coat healthy and mat free. She has been examined by our veterinarian and is in perfect puppy health. Apple Crisp will be ready for her forever home once she is fully weaned and has received her second puppy vaccine. Her adoption fee is $650. She will go home with two rounds of vaccines and a microchip. Subsequent boosters will be the adopter’s responsibility. She will not be spayed until at least 6 months of age; we cover a portion of the spay cost if completed between 6–9 months. A spay contract is required and enforced. Applications are available at leiashope.org. We are a volunteer-run organization and applications take 7–10 business days to process. We do not schedule meet and greets without an approved application. Adopters must travel to Decatur, IL for the meet and greet and to complete the adoption, and all family members (including dogs) must be present. Puppies are a 15+ year commitment, and adopters should be fully prepared to love Apple Crisp for her lifetime. We do not allow rehoming, and we do not offer transport or allow our dogs to fly cargo.

Story
Applications at leiashope.org Apple Cider Teddybear (Shih Tzu / Bichon mix) Female Location: Decatur, IL Apple Cider is the kind of puppy that steals hearts without even trying. She has the cutest little smudge on her face — a feature her foster mom finds absolutely adorable — and an easy-going, lovable personality that makes her a joy to have around. She is simply easy to love. She is confident, curious, and excels at learning new things. New experiences don’t faze her much, and she approaches the world with a calm, positive attitude. Apple Cider enjoys playtime and especially loves balls, with crinkle cat toy balls being her absolute favorite. She does very well with children and other dogs and would prefer a home with a playful canine companion. Like many puppies, Apple Cider likes to be right where the action is and has a habit of getting underfoot, which means she is not suited for homes with mobility concerns. Apple Cider was born in rescue and has been raised with Puppy Culture protocols, giving her a strong foundation in confidence building, problem solving, and thoughtful social skills. Continued education through Puppy Culture is preferred and included with her adoption. She will go home with the Puppy Culture course *With Open Arms and a Level Head*, which focuses on helping puppies grow into confident, well-adjusted companions through intentional, positive experiences. She is currently fed a balanced raw diet. While continuing raw is not required in her new home, providing a high-quality, nutritionally sound diet is important for her optimal health, growth, and overall well-being. Apple Cider is in perfect puppy health, has been checked by a veterinarian, will go home with age-appropriate vaccines, and will be microchipped. She will go home with a spay contract, with Leia’s Hope covering a portion of the cost if completed between 6–9 months of age. Regular grooming will be required throughout her life. Adoption fee: $650 Applications are processed in 7–10 business days. An approved application is required before a meet and greet. All family members, including resident dogs, must attend. Adopters must travel to Decatur, IL. If flying, Apple Cider must ride in the cabin with her family — cargo flights are not permitted. Puppies are a lifetime commitment, and adopters must be prepared to care for Apple Cider for the next 12–15+ years. If at any point she cannot remain with her adopter, she must be returned to Leia’s Hope Canine Rescue. Applications can be submitted at leiashope.org.

Story
applications at leiashope.org Apple Strudel Teddybear (Shih Tzu / Bichon mix) Male Location: Decatur, IL Apple Strudel is a sweet, gentle little guy with a joyful personality and a proud little strut to match. He loves playing with the mini poodle in his foster home and would be happiest in a home with a playful companion—either another dog or children who enjoy interacting with an active puppy. One of his favorite pastimes is carrying around small balls, especially wool cat balls, which he proudly parades with his tail up and head held high like he’s just won a prize. Strudel is doing well with his Puppy Culture basics and has shown nice progress with handling, including having his paws and face touched and groomed. As long as liverwurst is involved, he’s a very willing participant. He was born in rescue and has been raised on a balanced raw diet designed to support growth and help build a healthy gut biome. While continuing raw is not required, providing a high-quality, nutritionally sound diet is important for his long-term health and overall well-being. His adoption includes the next step of the Puppy Culture program, supporting continued confidence building, learning, and thoughtful development as he grows. Regular grooming will be required throughout his life, including professional grooming every 6 weeks with consistent brushing in between appointments. Apple Strudel is very much underfoot and a major trip hazard, so he is not a good fit for homes with small toddlers learning to walk or anyone with mobility concerns. Apple Strudel has been seen by the veterinarian and checks out perfectly adorable with no health concerns. He will go home with two rounds of puppy vaccines and will be microchipped. He is not neutered due to age; a neuter contract is required, and Leia’s Hope will cover $200 toward the neuter when completed between 6–9 months of age. He will be ready for his new home once fully weaned and after receiving his second vaccine, which will be after December 22. Adoption fee: $650 Applications are processed in 7–10 business days. An approved application is required before a meet and greet. All family members, including resident dogs, must attend, and adopters must travel to Decatur, IL. We do not provide transportation. If flying home with your new pet, Apple Strudel must ride in the cabin with his family—cargo flights are not permitted. Puppies are a lifetime commitment of 15+ years. If at any point Apple Strudel cannot remain with his adopter, he must be returned to Leia’s Hope Canine Rescue. Applications and additional information can be found at leiashope.org.

Story
**Emerald** 💚 **3-Year-Old Female Shih Tzu** 📍 Located in Decatur, IL 📝 Applications at [leiashope.org](http://leiashope.org) Emerald may be small, but her joy is BIG! This 3-year-old Shih Tzu is a puppy mill survivor who now spins in happy little circles and dances with excitement when life is good—and it often is, now that she’s in a foster home! She **adores toys**, especially soft ones, and will carefully collect them into a little pile like hidden treasure. She checks on them throughout the day and even carries them around like prized possessions. A gentle doggy playmate would be the cherry on top of her toy-loving world. At night, Emerald transforms into the **best cuddle buddy**, happily snoozing in bed with her person. During the day, she’s a relaxed companion—lounging on the cool floor, snuggling into a dog bed, or perching on the couch. She’s thriving on **routine**—crate-trained for her foster mom’s work schedule and eating meals in her kennel. While she’s not food aggressive, let’s just say she doesn’t believe in personal space when it comes to food bowls and would love to sample everyone’s meal if allowed. 😛 Emerald is a **sweet and gentle soul**, but she can be **shy with strangers**, especially men. She barks to express her discomfort and needs a patient family who will take things slow when introducing her to new people. Short, positive visits can help her gain confidence over time. She enjoys other dogs and will play with them, but she’s also great at entertaining herself. She’s **still learning to feel comfortable being picked up**, and will run away at first—but she’s getting braver by the day as she continues to adjust to life as a beloved pet. Because she’s considered a **flight risk**, Emerald requires a **secure physical fenced yard**. Her ideal home includes either a **confident canine companion** or an adopter with **mill dog experience** who can help her continue to bloom at her own pace. 💖 🔹 Spayed 🔹 Vaccinated 🔹 Microchipped 🔹 On monthly flea/heartworm prevention 💰 Adoption fee: 400 📍 Located in Decatur, IL 📝 Apply to adopt at [leiashope.org](http://leiashope.org) ⚠️ Please note: We are a volunteer-run rescue. Application processing can take **7–10 business days**. All meet-and-greets require an **approved application**. We do **not** ship or transport dogs—adopters must travel to the dog’s location. -

Story
Applications at leiashope.org Apple Butter is located in Decatur, IL. She is believed to be a Teddybear (Shih Tzu/Bichon) and was born in our care after her mom, a 10-pound Shih Tzu, arrived pregnant. Apple Butter is the smallest of her litter, but what she lacks in size she certainly makes up for in personality. She loves playing with her siblings and snuggling with any warm body she can find—whether that’s a foster sibling or one of the adult dogs in the home. She is currently going through the Puppy Culture program, which introduces puppies to age-appropriate learning such as confidence-building games, early socialization, problem solving, and gentle communication skills. Apple Butter gets excited for her one-on-one training sessions and enjoys showing off her new skills. She is an excellent cuddler, but she and her siblings are also notorious for being under foster mom’s feet and nearly tripping her multiple times a day. Because of this, Apple Butter will do best in a home without small children or anyone with mobility concerns. Apple Butter was weaned onto a balanced raw diet to help support her gut biome. She will go home with a few days of food to transition. She does not need to stay on raw, but it is preferred for optimal health. Teddybears are sweet, loving companions who require frequent brushing and routine grooming every six weeks to keep their coats healthy and mat free. She has been examined by our veterinarian and is in perfect puppy health. Apple Butter will be ready for her forever home once she is fully weaned and has received her second puppy vaccine. Her adoption fee is $650. Included in her adoption is the next-stage Puppy Culture program, a $100 online course designed to set both puppy and family up for long-term success. This course guides adopters through training, socialization, and developmental milestones to help Apple Butter continue the strong foundation she has already begun. Apple Butter will go home with two rounds of vaccines and microchipping. Subsequent boosters are the responsibility of the adopter. She will not be spayed at this age; our rescue covers a portion of the spay cost if it is completed between 6–9 months. A spay contract is required and enforced. Story
applications at leiashope.org Apple Fritter is a Teddybear (Shih Tzu/Bichon) puppy located in Decatur, IL, and he is the outgoing, confident leader of his litter. He’s the biggest of the group and the first to try anything new—whether it’s a toy, a game, or something he probably *shouldn’t* be climbing. He loves playing with his siblings and has enjoyed spending time with his foster’s 3-year-old granddaughter, happily joining in her fun. Fritter is eager to learn, especially when it comes to scent games, which he takes very seriously even when he looks delightfully silly doing them. He prefers a home with another playful dog or children who will keep him entertained and help him continue building confidence. Fritter is being raised with Puppy Culture, a structured, science-backed program designed to support early neurological development, confidence building, problem-solving skills, socialization, and emotional resilience. He will go home with the next-stage Puppy Culture course, “With Open Arms and a Level Head,” so his new family can continue his education. He is currently being fed a balanced raw diet, and although raw feeding is not required, he will need to remain on a high-quality, nutritious food for optimal growth and long-term health. He will also require regular grooming every 6–8 weeks, plus frequent brushing to maintain his coat. Apple Fritter has been checked by the vet and is a perfect, happy, adorable puppy. He will go home with two rounds of vaccines and a microchip. He is not neutered due to his age; a neuter contract is required, and Leia’s Hope will cover a portion of the procedure when completed between 6–9 months at your veterinarian. Adoption fee is $650. Applications can be submitted at leiashope.org. Our adoption process includes: 1. Application review with reference checks 2. Virtual home visit 3. In-person meet and greet with all family members and resident dogs at the dog’s location We do not offer shipping or cargo flights; adopters must travel to Decatur, IL, for both the meet and greet and the adoption.
