Meet Penny Penny is a purebred Shih Tzu who joined us in July after being found laying on a sidewalk in Chicago earlier in the summer during a heatwave. She was heatstroke and very dehydrated; a good Samaritan took her to the ER for immediate care. With fluids and support care, Penny recovered and was taken to Chicago Animal Control where she sat, until we took her into our Rescue. Penny is a sweet little pup, estimated to be 2-3 years old, and just 11 lbs. She has somewhat of a unique personality, for a young pup. She’s very mellow and is a bit of a loner. While fine with other dogs, she is not really interested in playing with them. That said, she may prefer to be an only dog but we do expect her to evolve into her true self, once she settles into her forever home with her forever family. Penny is fully vetted, heartworm negative and on year-round prevention, spayed and microchipped. She is reported to be housebroken as well. Poor little Emma lived in a nasty puppy mill in Missouri for 6 years where she was forced to have litter after litter until she no longer produced large litters. Since she was no longer profitable she was at risk to be destroyed. That's how puppy mills work. Remember that whenever you see puppies in a puppy store! Emma is now safe and ready to start living her best life. Emma is only 6 years old and weighs a svelte 11 pounds. She's been spayed and her teeth are pearly white from her dental. Emma is working hard learning to trust humans and she's come a long way. She's treat motivated which helps in training. She will come up and take a treat from your hand but prefers to scoot away with it and eat it in private. She's doing well with house training. She uses a pee pad and also uses the doggie door to go outside to do her business. Belle is a 4-5 year old Teddy Bear dog. Sadly she came from a puppy mill and was very scared when she arrived in rescue. She would jump if you touched her. She has come a long way in a few weeks and now looks for attention from her foster mom. She is still scared of people she doesn’t know. She gets along great with other dogs and shows no interest in cats. She is a very inquisitive girl always investigating new things. She figured out the doggie door the first day. She is working on potty training. She barely ever barks only when she wants something. Her playful side is finally coming out and she is learning how to be a dog. Belle is looking for a home where someone is home more than not. A fenced in yard would be a plus. She needs an adopter that is willing to work with her, and she will be a wonderful companion.
