CutieBug is just as adorable as her name! This pint-sized princess recently came to us from a rural animal control facility, so sadly not much is known about her past. We can give you tips on introducing her to any other pups or kitties at home to help with a smooth transition. CutieBug is looking forward to worming her way right into your heart!

Story
*Applications at leiashope.org Honey Crisp 2-Month-Old Female Shih-Poo (Shih Tzu/Poodle Mix) 📍 Location: Troy, MO Meet Honey Crisp, a playful and affectionate Shih-Poo puppy learning what it means to be loved! Born in a puppy mill, she’s now thriving in foster care where she enjoys chasing her puppy friends, playing with toys, and curling up on soft blankets. Honey Crisp is a happy, confident little girl who loves to be underfoot—so she wouldn’t be ideal for someone with mobility concerns. She would do best in a home with playful children (ages 6+) or another young, active dog who can keep up with her energy and help her continue to learn and grow. About the Shih-Poo: The Shih-Poo blends the affectionate and gentle nature of the Shih Tzu with the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the Poodle. This mix produces friendly, loyal companions that love being near their people. Their coats require routine brushing and professional grooming every 6 weeks to keep them soft, clean, and mat-free. Vetting & Adoption Details: Adoption Fee: $550 Current on age-appropriate vaccines (subsequent boosters at adopter’s expense) Microchipped Vet-checked and healthy Not yet spayed — Leia’s Hope covers a portion of the spay cost when completed between 6–9 months of age Leia’s Hope is volunteer-run, and all dogs live in foster homes. Please allow 7–10 business days for application processing. Meet-and-greets are only scheduled with an approved application, and all family members (including dogs) must attend. Applicants must be willing to travel to the dog’s location for both the meet and adoption. We do not provide transportation and do not allow cargo flights. Honey Crisp is a young puppy, and her new family must be prepared to love and care for her for 12–15 years. In the event of the adopter’s death, she must be returned to Leia’s Hope — rehoming is not permitted.

Shih Tzu 5mo/ DOB 07.17.25 8 Pounds Spayed /Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Heartworm / Flea Preventative INSTRUCTIONS for ADOPTION: ***Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. ***If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send a completed application to gateway4paws@gmail.com. ***Applications & FAQ regarding adoption can be found on our website. ***Only completed applications that meet requirements will be reviewed. ***Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be contacted. ***We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive for a meet & greet. Another product of the puppy boom, Hope wasn't sold by her breeder in a timely manner. So, she "aged out" & was sent to rescue. Hope came to us with her littermate; we named him Noble. Both puppies are very smart. They pick-up on things quickly. They have lots of energy & play well together, they will each warm up to you comfortably. Once they do, they enjoy sitting on your lap while getting brushed. We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. Hope will need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up for her. This area will be a part of the home where she can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where she can play, lounge, or nap when her family is not directly engaging. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep your puppy off the stairs unsupervised. Additionally, please be aware of the stair railing & the distance between the spindles. Small children, anyone unsteady on their feet, and large dogs could be a safety hazard for Hope. So please consider that when making the decision as to her being a good fit for your family. Both puppies are doing very well with crate training. At night this is where they sleep quietly & comfortably. Please note that they have each other for company, leaving a puppy all alone in a crate can be lonely. You want to make sure the crate signals a space of comfort & safety. Getting a treat upon entrance, a dim nightlight, a cover over 3 sides, & music or a sound machine are all easy ways to make their space feel safe. Hope has been successful with her potty training, in spite of the recent snow! She will go to the door to signal, but you have to be quick. It is a process that will require commitment & patience, as puppies have a little puppy bladder. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. Please give her time to get used to a schedule & set her up for success! This sweet girl is not quite taking to harness & leash training yet. We will accept applications from families who do not have a fenced yard. But we will insist on you having a plan for a safe area where Hope can do her potty business without being stressed or startled. If you do have a fenced yard, your fence must be very secure, an 8lb puppy can quickly fit through very small spaces. It is worth considering having an xpen for your yard, as this would be an extra layer of protection for Hope's safety. No puppy should ever be left in a yard without supervision, NEVER EVER. Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt a wonderful new friend. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.

Shih Tzu 3yo- DOB 09/15/21 14lbs Spayed/Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Current on flea & heartworm prevention Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Only complete & qualified applications will be considered/contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet and greet. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications & FAQ about our adoption process can be found on our website. Summer came into our program as a breeder release, still pretty young. Her dad is also in our program & featured for adoption on our website, his name is Hershey! (Check him out, too! Wouldn't it be cool if they found a home together.) When Summer came into her foster home, she was a bit spicy. She was confused, she wasn't sure if this was a good thing or not. She was very timid & scared. Boy, has she really changed, she has flourished & bloomed! Once so scared, she willingly goes to her foster mom & seeks companionship & cuddles from her. She will do best in a calm, low activity home. A home that is willing to patiently allow her to adjust & get used to her forever environment. Going into a new home will be another change for Summer, but she is very brave & we know that she will successfully make the transition if given a chance. She will do best learning from other 4-legged siblings, we would like to see her find a home with some friends of similar size & energy level. She follows her foster siblings around, she likes to play with them very gently, no rough housing. She also enjoys chewing on bones & will keep herself content while doing so. In her foster home, she has proven to be 100% house trained. We are so proud of her. With that said, her new family must understand she could have a few accidents until she gets her new routine down. Please be prepared to give her ample opportunity for success, praise her when she does it right, & be patient with her. Summer does great wearing a harness. But that's it. She will wear the harness like a diamond necklace, but she refuses to walk on leash. We know that eventually she will have a breakthrough, but it is not right now! Therefore, for her safety (& for her to be able to do her potty business immediately upon adoption), a secure physical fence yard is required. An aluminum or slat type of fencing will need a gap filler around the bottom half so she can't get through, something like galvanized wire mesh or another sturdy mesh type material. She isn't an outdoor adventure dog; she doesn't need a big yard. But she does need a very secure area to do her potty business. Never EVER should she be left in the yard alone. If you don't have another dog, please consider adopting Hershey & Summer. They get along famously, they love each other! We look forward to matching Summer with her forever family soon!
