Shih Tzu DOB 12/18/19 12lbs Neutered/Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Current on flea/heartworm prevention Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY, it will answer most of your questions. If you are a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Only complete & qualified applications will be considered/contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive for a meet and greet. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications can be found here on our website. Hershey was a pretty shy boy when he first arrived. He was scared & not sure what the future was going to be. Well, he arrived at his foster home & was greeted by some furry friends who assured him it was going to be fabulous from here on out. He spent the first few weeks just watching. Watching the humans, watching the other dogs, & watching the household activities. Hershey has come a long way and now follows his foster mom everywhere. He will jump up on the recliner so his foster mom will hold him. He lays in the kitchen next to her feet. He loves his foster mom. He is still unsure of his foster dad but is getting better. In his new home, everyone will need to understand Hershey will need time to adjust so you will need patience. Hershey is still not accepting of the harness and leash so he will need a secure physically fenced yard. In time, his family can work on leash training, but it isn’t going to happen any time soon. He is a very good boy that doesn’t need to be crated & is always on his best behavior when his foster family is gone. He is not completely potty trained but taken out often, he doesn't have accidents. Hershey needs a low-key family that will allow him to bloom. He really needs another dog of similar size in the home already. He will lay and snuggle with his foster siblings around the home during the day and he cuddles with his 4 legged siblings on a comfy bed in his human fosters bedroom. Please apply if you have a nice slow-paced home for Hershey to join.

Applications can be found on our website. Buddy was a pretty shy boy when he first arrived. He has come a long way and now follows his foster mom everywhere. He particularly enjoys his furry friends and is much more confident when they are around. We will seek to find a home where he will have an appropriate canine friend. Buddy is still not accepting of the harness and leash so he will need a secure physically fenced yard. In time, his family can work on leash training, but it isn’t going to happen any time soon. When he arrives at his new home, we will immediately need a secure safe space to continue his housetraining & potty schedule, that is why a fence is a must. He is a very good boy that doesn’t need to be crated & is always on his best behavior when his foster family is gone. He is not completely potty trained but taken out often, he doesn't have accidents. He doesn't know how to signal to go out, but he will go out & back in easily. He likes to have a partner when he goes outside. One of Buddy's favorite things is sleeping with the whole family in the big bed at night. He really wants to be a part of the family, to be included & loved. A low-key patient home will be the perfect place for him to bloom. Please apply if you have a nice loving home for Buddy to join.

Story
Walter is a 10-year-old Shih Tzu rescued through the Humane Society. Walter only has his canine teeth left, so he will need canned food for the remainder of his life; but he just had a dental in June, so those remaining teeth are clean and polished! Walter is showing some signs of aging, but he is in very good shape. He tolerates some dogs but would prefer to be the only male, and he would be happiest if he was the star of the show. His favorite thing is going on a treasure hunt to find all of the toys. He brings them back to his bed and makes a huge pile of his bounty. Then he sits on his throne to survey all that he has accomplished. Walter appears to like men more than women. He loves to curl up and snuggle in the recliner on his foster dad's lap, but he refuses to sit long-term with his foster mom. She's trying not to take it personally, but he does follow her around the house. Walter has backpack all packed, and he's ready to travel. He would love to head out and see everything there is to see in the world! He loves looking out the window! Walter was recently groomed and will require regular grooming with his new adopters. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and heartworm-negative. Want to learn more about Walter? Fill out an application at istodaymydayrescue.org, and one of our team members will reach out to you. Walter's adoption fee as a senior dog is $200.

Story
** FENCED YARD ** & ** COMPANION DOG HER SIZE IN HOME ** **  BREEDER / SKITTISH DOG EXPERIENCE A PLUS **   Meet MISTY, a 6-1/2 yr old, 15 lb, Beautiful Chocolate Brown Shih Tzu Mix. She is Very Sweet & Shy (see her video below). She is scared to be picked up, so you need patience and understanding, to catch her and have her sit in your lap. Misty has no problem coming UP STEPS, but she is very scared to go down steps . So the fewer / or no steps in home would work better. Misty is very good with other dogs her size in the home. Misty would prefer no children in home and needs quieter environment. Misty potties outside, however, sometimes inside she will potty on pads. Foster parents working with her to take her outside more often. Since she is food motivated, she spends time with her people in the kitchen (we are "trying" to keep her from becoming a little beggar!!!) and will take treats from your hand. Misty's Perfect Family Home is quieter with fenced yard, her people are home a lot, and there is another dog her size in the home to teach her to be a dog.   Misty will Require at least one companion dog and a fenced yard.   If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Misty’s adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.December 17, 2024, 5:29 am
