Story
Buddster, a fun, active, curious chihuahua/shih tzu mix, weighs about 16 pounds and is around 4 years old. He’s house trained and crate trained but loves spending time on the sofa cuddling or playing fetch with his squeaky toys or ball. He’s wary of strangers especially men.  He needs very slow introductions to new people. A little patience and treats will be rewarded with a loving lapdog. He can be anxious and nervous and will bark if feeling threatened. He was surrendered by a loving owner who went into assisted living. He has no history with dogs or children. He would likely do best in household with one or 2 adults. Since he likes exploring, a fenced yard would be preferred. Size: 16 pounds Color: tan/white Age: 4 years Has basic commands Moderate exercise Wary of new people Fence preferred If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Buddster’s adoption fee is $295.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. WE ARE A TX-BASED RESCUE. THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TX AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED UPON ADOPTION. Please fill out an adoption application at haydudeequine.org ✨🐾 Meet Little Bit — Proof That the Best Things Come in Tiny, Fluffy Packages 🐾✨ (4 Years Old • Shih Tzu • 9 lbs • Male • Professional Shadow) If you’ve ever thought, “I’d really like a dog who quietly follows me around like a very cute cloud,” then Little Bit is about to be your dream come true. At just 9 pounds and 4 years old, Little Bit is sweet, gentle, and delightfully low-key. He’s the kind of pup who prefers soft beds, kind humans, and being exactly wherever you are — no chaos, no drama, no unnecessary barking commentary. Despite being surrendered for being “too energetic” (allegedly 🙃), Little Bit has shown us nothing but calm, quiet manners. Here, he’s more low to very medium energy — playful when invited, content to lounge when not, and always happy just to be included. His only “crime” was lightly chasing porch cats, which he would like the court to note was non-threatening...just a little, I wanta say 'hello'. 🐶 Little Bit’s Best Features: • Very sweet & submissive — gentle soul alert • Great with other dogs and respectful of everyone’s space • Not much of a barker — strong “peace and quiet” energy • Playful but not demanding — he reads the room like a pro • Small, delicate, and affectionate (handle with love & cuddles) Because he’s petite and submissive, Little Bit would do best in a home without small children — not because he’s grumpy, but because he’s more “porcelain teacup” than “rough-and-tumble toy.” He’d be perfect for someone looking for a loyal companion, a quiet buddy, or a furry little shadow who wants to be part of your daily routine. If you’re looking for a dog who will follow you from room to room, sit politely nearby, and occasionally remind you how adorable life can be… 👉 Apply today at haydudeequine.org — Little Bit is ready to be your tiny bestest furry friend. 🐾💖

Story
*Florance is in foster and can be seen by appointment only* Florance aka "Flo" is a 1-year-old Shih Tzu mix who arrived at our shelter in tough shape, matted, scared, and so pregnant that she gave birth the very same day she came in. Despite everything she has been through, this tiny mama is already showing us how gentle and resilient she is. Flo is very shy at first but is slowly blossoming in her foster home with the help of her canine foster siblings. Watching another dog navigate the world gives her confidence, so we recommend a home with at least one friendly resident dog to help her continue coming out of her shell. She is potty pad trained and enjoys the comfort of a calm, predictable home environment. Because she is still building trust and learning how to be a beloved family dog, Flo will need a securely fenced yard where she can safely explore at her own pace. She is currently living in a foster home and can be seen by appointment only. If you have a gentle home, a soft spot for shy dogs, and a furry friend ready to show Flo the ropes, she may be the perfect addition to your family. If interested please fill out a preliminary at odas.org/canine and someone will contact you to schedule a visit.

Story
Oreo Pie got his name because he’s truly sweet as pie. Before being rescued, this little guy was abandoned in a backyard, tied to a tree, and survived thanks to kind neighbors who fed him for a month. When his foster mama saved him, he was severely matted and had to be shaved down to the skin. Since then, he’s learned what it feels like to be safe, loved, and comfortable—and now he happily snores the day away in his doggie bed. Oreo Pie hasn’t met a person he doesn’t adore and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He’s potty trained, crate trained, and an easy-going, laid-back little man who LOVES food. If he’s hungry (or thinks you’re moving too slow), he’ll let you know—and may even bring you his food bowl as a reminder! Oreo Pie will require regular, lifelong grooming to keep him comfortable and mat-free, but he’s absolutely worth it. This sweet boy is ready for a forever family to spoil him the way he deserves. Local adoption fee is $200(in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $500 (includes transport to your area)

You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive for a meet & greet. Another product of the puppy boom, Hope wasn't sold by her breeder in a timely manner. So, she "aged out" & was sent to rescue. Hope came to us with her littermate; we named him Noble. Both puppies are very smart. They pick-up on things quickly. They have lots of energy & play well together, they will each warm up to you comfortably. Once they do, they enjoy sitting on your lap while getting brushed. We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. Hope will need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up for her. This area will be a part of the home where she can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where she can play, lounge, or nap when her family is not directly engaging. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep your puppy off the stairs unsupervised. Additionally, please be aware of the stair railing & the distance between the spindles. Small children, anyone unsteady on their feet, and large dogs could be a safety hazard for Hope. So please consider that when making the decision as to her being a good fit for your family. Both puppies are doing very well with crate training. At night this is where they sleep quietly & comfortably. Please note that they have each other for company, leaving a puppy all alone in a crate can be lonely. You want to make sure the crate signals a space of comfort & safety. Getting a treat upon entrance, a dim nightlight, a cover over 3 sides, & music or a sound machine are all easy ways to make their space feel safe. Hope has been successful with her potty training, in spite of the recent snow! She will go to the door to signal, but you have to be quick. It is a process that will require commitment & patience, as puppies have a little puppy bladder. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. Please give her time to get used to a schedule & set her up for success! This sweet girl is not quite taking to harness & leash training yet. We will accept applications from families who do not have a fenced yard. But we will insist on you having a plan for a safe area where Hope can do her potty business without being stressed or startled. If you do have a fenced yard, your fence must be very secure, an 8lb puppy can quickly fit through very small spaces. It is worth considering having an xpen for your yard, as this would be an extra layer of protection for Hope's safety. No puppy should ever be left in a yard without supervision, NEVER EVER. Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt a wonderful new friend. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.
