Story
Location: Decatur, IL Emerald is a puppy mill survivor! She is still learning the ways of being a pet and adjusting to life in a home. Emerald is sometimes shy and insecure with strangers (especially men) and will bark at them. Her new family will need to understand this and take things slow when introducing new people and having guests. We recommend short visits that are positive to help her be ok with new people. Emerald has discovered all the joys of toys and likes to play with them. She spins in circles when she is happy or excited. She loves other dogs and will lay next to them. She thinks every dog is her friend, even if they have different feelings about it. Emerald is not sure about grass but is getting a little more comfortable with being outside. She likes to lay on the concrete in the sun. She gets along great with other dogs and will play with them, but she can also entertain herself. She is good with snuggles from people but is unsure about being picked up and will run away at first. This should get better with time and as she learns to trust. Emerald is considered a flight risk and will need a secure physical fence to keep her safe. Someone with mill dog experience is needed or another canine companion in the dog. Another dog will help her continue her studies in being a pet. Emerald's adoption fee is $375. She is spayed and current on vaccines and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. NOTE: WE ARE A VOLUNTEER RAN ORGANIZATION AND OUR APPLICATION PROCESS CAN TAKE 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS, DEPENDING ON OUR AVAILIBILITY AND YOUR REFERENCES. ALL OF OUR DOGS ARE IN FOSTER HOMES AND NOT AT A CENTRAL LOCATION. AN APPROVED APPLICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE WE DO MEET AND GREETS. WE DO NOT SHIP OR TRANSPORT DOGS. YOU MUST COME TO THE LOCATION OF THE DOG TO MEET AND ADOPT.

Story
Location Decatur, IL Visit leiashope.org for our adoption process This lady is wonderful. She has a great demeanor, not a dare devil but not overly sensitive. She is highly treat motivated and smart to pick up almost anything taught to her! She snores when she sleeps, which is ADORABLE, and grunts when cuddling! Pink Lady has been raised on Puppy Culture. Puppy Culture is a comprehensive program for new puppies that aims to optimize a puppy's physical and mental developement. The goal of the program is to raise confident and healthy puppies. Since birth Lady has been handled, touched, stroked, smooched on and doted over. She has had many experiences to different sights, sounds (thunderstorm, dogs barking, TV, train, vacuum, hair dryer, etc.) and surfaces (grass, carpet, rock, vinyl, water, stairs, balance board, etc). In addition, she has had many opportunities to meet different people and dogs and go to different places. She has been taught to explore and try new things, how to communicate with people through manding, how to be creative in her thoughts and approaches to challenges, and been exposed to grooming equipment. And let me tell you, Lady has been great about it all! Lady has been weaned on a raw diet and had her gut biome enhanced with a variety of different foods. Studies have shown this can help with gut health throughout the rest of her life. She is now eating a dry kibble. Lady does have a small umbilical hernia that can be repaired at the time of spay. Other than this, she is a healthy puppy! Lady's adoption is $550. Here is what your $550 gets you: 1. Puppy vaccines and rabies (DAPP and Bordetella), approx. value $200 2. Complete wellness exam, microchip, and deworming, approx. value $130 3. Spay and neuter reimburse, value $200 4. Puppy Culture training from birth to adopt, approx value $300+ 5. Story
Location Decatur, IL Application at leiashope.org Frankie is the sweetest of all the pups. He loves attention and to be held and cuddled. When I sit on the floor he is usually the first to come running. He is the biggest boy and him and Pink Lady swap back and forth between who weighs the most. He does like treats but for him, his biggest motivator is affection. Frankie has been raised on Puppy Culture. Puppy Culture is a comprehensive program for new puppies that aims to optimize a puppy's physical and mental developement. The goal of the program is to raise confident and healthy puppies. Since birth Frankie has been handled, touched, stroked, smooched on and doted over. He has been taught to explore and try new things, how to communicate with people through manding, how to be creative in his thoughts and approaches to challenges, and been exposed to grooming equipment. Frankie is pretty even tempered about most things and is usually happy as long as he is getting loved on. Frankie has been weaned on a raw diet and had his gut biome enhanced with a variety of different foods. Studies have shown this can help with gut health throughout the rest of his life. He is currently eating dry kibble. Frankie does have a small umbilical hernia that can be repaired at the time of neuter. In addition he has polydactyl (an extra toe) rear feet and double dew claws. His feet do not hinder his ability to get around at all. Frankie's adoption is $550. Story
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Location: Decatur, IL Frenchie is a former breeder dog, that spent years having litter after litter for the profit of her master! She came to us pregnant and has had her last litter. It is time to focus on Frenchie and give her the life she deserves! Frenchie is a sweet and low key lady. She loves to be told what a good girl she is. Her little tail just wags and she will run to you for pets! Frenchie also LOVES food and gets very excited for dinner time. She seems to not have a stop button, so it is her parents responsibility that she eats an appropriate amount of high quality food. Frenchie enjoys sitting in her person's lap, snoozing in a dog bed, or sunbathing! She sometimes plays with toys, but she does like chewies. Pearl is missing an eye and she cannot see out of her right side.It does not bother her, and just needs to be wiped daily. She probably would do best in a home without fast moving children. She also seems to struggle with going down steps. Foster mom has a ramp she uses. Her family may need to pick her up if there are steps to the yard. Frenchie is a good little girl and only weighs about 11 lbs. She would be perfect for a family looking for a lap pet and cuddle companion! Frenchie's adoption is $375. She is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines, received a dental and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Visit leiashope.org for next steps! PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. Story
One of these ears is not like the other...Vincent Van Go-Go is a gorgeous male Shih Tzu. He is 8-years old, and overweight at 16-pounds. When he was picked up as a stray, he was very matted. Once trimmed, it became evident that he has one beautiful blue eye. He also had a "fake ear. His left ear canal is normal, but he has no ear flap on that side. It makes him unique and special, and it doesn't affect his hearing. When his hair grows back, you can even let him grow a new "fake ear if you prefer. No one will even notice. :) Vince likes other dogs and calm people. He is a food hound, and will need to be fed separately from any other pets. Maybe we should have named him Hoover?? Vince also cries for attention in the cutest of ways. He sounds like a mix of a baby and a small cat. It is very endearing. Vince likes cars, walks, and is okay in a crate. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $275. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. We are located in Bloomington, IL We do not ship, you would need to travel to pick up your babies if you live out of state. Your current pets must be up-to-date on core vaccines, spayed/neutered, and on heart worm prevention year round. You must be at least 21-years-old to adopt. Please have your veterinarian and two non-family reference phone numbers ready. The app makes you start all over if you leave the page to look up numbers. After we review your completed survey we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. We're primarily a volunteer organization, so we appreciate your patience. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sundays and Mondays and will not be processing any applications on that day. A PCH adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). Counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and leash to pick up. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart: Park in the PetSmart Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. PCH supports a 21-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we are not able to provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities!
